The Big Short

Movies

Seen this yesterday evening. I must say I found it extremely well directed and acted. I especially liked how they explained complicated financial matters with understandable metaphors while extrapolation them from the movie in an entertaining way enanching the overall narration instead of hindering it (loved the casino metaphor and the "bubble bath" explanation, of course:P)

Did anyone else see the movie? Care to share your opinion?

I saw this. It was interesting, and I agree that it did a good job of explaining some of the financial devices and techniques that were in play.

I found the portrayals of the characters pretty interesting, particularly Christian Bale's performance, complete with social difficulties. Brad Pitt seems to be in familiar territory as the reasonable (if quirky) guy. Steve Carrel gives a surprising depth to his character. Ryan Gosling feels authentically slimy.

I also liked how the filmmakers used some shots to tease audience expectations. The convention scene entrance was a perfect example.

In terms of story, the way that the characters' understanding and attitudes shift as the movie goes on, as well as the note the film ends on, are satisfying (if a bit worrying).
