The Gargoyles... Alternatives?

Going through THE DIVINITY DRIVE again, and once again, those darn gargoyles stuck out like a sore thumb to me. They just don't really fit, and using flying creatures in the confined spaces of Divinity don't really take advantage of that ability.

I kinda like the cybernetic gargoyle aesthetic, and it might make sense to throw a few of them at the party in THE PALACE OF FALLEN STARS either as allies of the Technic League or as Unity's direct agents, but again, having them in the spaceship is a bit off putting.

Any thoughts about replacing them with a more alien / robot type menace for the party?

You could give them a clockwork or constructed template.

Yeah, but the flying is still there. It seems like you have a flying monster in a tight corridor. It just doesn't really make sense to stick them in the constraints of Divinity.

I rather like the idea of Unity finding gargoyles to be much nicer lifeforms because they're so wonderfully silicate. But indoors gargoyles are indeed a bit sad.

In my campaign I'm planning to make Unity much more active outside of Silver Mount, so I'll get to showcase them outside.

Take away their wings. That should make up for the bump in CR construct/clockwork gets.

Pluck off their wings? That sounds really cruel.. at least remember to leave some badly-bandaged wings and give them jet boosters and Powerful Charge then :p

There's an in-world reason why Unity chose gargoyles—it's in the text somewhere. Basically, since gargoyles are living creatures BUT also have the earth subtype, this means that their molecules are closer aligned to metal and artificial stuff—they're custom built, as far as Unity sees, as perfect cybernetic workshops or areas to explore the merging of organic with mechanical. Since they're already inorganic enough to have the Earth subtype, after all.

Once Unity masters the art of melding gargoyle with cybernetics/robot parts/technology/etc. he can use that as a stepping stone to working on wholly organic creatures (aka things without the Earth subtype).

Sovereign Court

Yeah, that idea rather appealed to me.

That's it! When my players get to this point, cyborg geargoyles with built in jet packs instead of wings!

yeah, I mean it's a cool image. The art was great, and I loved the homage to Demona from the Gargoyles TV show.

Even w/o Unity, it's kinda fun to think about a covey of cybernetic gargoyles circling around Starfell from the peak of the Silver Mount.
