I have an Interest Check thread running for a game and through brainstorming ideas we have run into a question.
Is is permissible to use or make reference to characters and settings that are the IP of other companies in PbP?
Can someone create a character and alias for a campaign that is called Batman, for example? Or have a campaign set in Metropolis?
Specifically, we are looking at creating a campaign set in the future of the DC Universe, but more generically the question would extend to things like settings owned by Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro, like a Greyhawk campaign.

We don't have restrictions for what kind of campaign you want to run in our Play-by-Post subforums. Our main concern with IP violations is that you should not post links to illegal downloads of copyrighted material or copy/paste copyrighted text/mechanics in your posts. You're free to play as your interpretation of the Batman however :)
