No, her power extends only to the combat check, not to anything that comes after (like recharge checks). But you still get a free spell from the box! :)

The other option is hoping that the other players get high level spells during the game. Then choose that as your upgrade. You can replace the low-level spell that was banished with a basic spell.
I was referring to her power that immediately gives her a spell from the box (in lieu of being able to make a recharge check). Getting higher level spell scrolls is a separate issue. (One that the rest of the group will hopefully help you accomplish.)
