I'm going to be running IG soon and my players are starting to scheme for their characters. I have one player who is aboslutely dead set on playing a hippogryph-riding bow ranger. Is there any outdoor combat in this campaign or is it, as I'm guessing, mostly inside ship corridors and caverns? Would she get any use out of a flying mount? Keep in mind that I rarely bother with random encounters as my players are far more interested in plot than in filler.

Roughly speaking:
Book 1 (levels 1-3) is 95% indoors.
Book 2 (levels 4-6) is about 50% indoors, including some of the decisive fights.
Book 3 (levels 7-9) are probably about 75% indoors, and most of the important action will be indoors.
Book 4 (levels 10-12) will be about 50% indoors, including the bosses
Book 5 (levels 13-14) will be about 80% indoors, including the bosses
Book 6 (levels 15-17) will be about 95% indoors
I don't think this is a great AP for a griffon rider. You'd probably get the most mileage out of that in Giantslayer; giants need more space and so does cavalry. Most monsters in this AP are medium with a dash of Large.
