All hail the Empire of the Mouse.
Yeeeeeeeeeah...I'm gonna wait on some official confirmation on this before I start weeping with joy and scheduling PTO's for the subsequent OT marathon.
I'll be happy with a OT release in Anamorphic Widescreen on BluRay.

Theatrical Version has always been used to refer to the Original release versions as opposed to the Special Addition versions.
On a halfway related tangent...
I have the original version of Episode 1 on VHS, and when I got it on DVD, I was disappointed to find a number of additions. I'd like to find the original version on DVD; I just don't know what exactly to look for.

It officially doesn't exist.

I have it on DVD. It was included as a bonus several years ago on one of the Star Wars Releases, along with the original version of Empire and Return.
Many thought it was a very poor rendition to DVD as it appeared they simply took a Laserdisc copy and transferred it to DVD without any anamorphic to it.
However, with the right settings on your DVD upgrade player OR Blu-ray player and HD TV it actually looks just fine (at least to me).
I'd very extremely psyched it they actually release the original versions onto Blu-Ray. Beats the entire Vader shouting NOOOO! in a very stupid manner as he dumps the Emperor down the shaft.

For all of it's massive flaws, Phantom Menace still has some of the best individual scenes in all of Star Wars.
Opening Scene, when Qui-Gon uses his lightsaber to melt through the blast door.
The reveal of the entire city of Otoh Gunga. Yes, it's filled with gungans, but that underwater city was fantastic.
The Qui-Gon & Obi-wan vs Darth Maul final fight. Best Lighsaber duel in the entire series.
The problem with the movie is it's 20 minutes of greatness mixed with 115 minutes of crap.

Agreed! I've said it before, but I'm convinced you could take all three of the prequals and edit them down to 2 pretty darn good movies.
Back on topic: are there any more details on this? I may have missed it, but is there a final list of theaters and dates yet?

Honestly episode 3 is the worst of all the movies and the one I've watched a whole 4 times over the years (2x in theater, 1 on DVD, 1 on BD) and unless I watch the Rift Trax won't ever watch again. Horrible Horrible story and acting.
I'm probably a heretic but I like MOST of the BD versions of the movie (except the Anakin ghost at the end of Jedi).

Nothing yet. There is a rumor the Force Awakens tickets go on sale on Ocober 19, with the final trailer out a little before then. So maybe around then they will say something.

I found Attack of the Clones pretty watchable by hitting next chapter every other chapter. Then it was basically a movie about Obi-Wan investigating like some Jedi gumshoe.

The Gungans weren't bad - I think the issue was one in particular.
The worst part about the lightsaber duel for me was the double-bladed monstrosity Darth Maul was using. After that, the crossguarded thing from the new trailer is incredibly tame.

Really? Huh ... I LOVED that double-ended lightsabre! The fight beteen Dart Maul (using his awesome double-ended lightsabre) and Obi-Wan & Qui Gon was one of the best parts of the movies!

I liked RotS, I just hated that it was shackled on to AotC and PM.
Of course, as Machete Order points out, you can safely skip Phantom Menace and still understand episodes 2 and 3. The only thing about episode one that I liked was Yoda's fear leads to anger quote, if only because of how often it is parodied (and I like the parodied versions more).
Ultimately I think I agree with Marc's claim that it could have been cut down into two decent movies. You could have one movie start by explaing the setup more concisely than Phantom Menace did, before continuing through the necessary portions of episode II. You'd need a dramaturg to go through and make the story better, and revise the story, though. Most of episode three could probably remain as it is for the second movie (though ideally, a better actor would have been cast as Anakin).
I don't really have an opinion on the edits to the OT, since I didn't watch any of them as they were coming out--I only watched all six on DVD a few years after RotS came out.
