Homebrew Kingmaker AP

Homebrew and House Rules

Grand Lodge

So awhile back I played with a group at my FLGS, the DM ran a very homebrewed Kingmaker game. My home campaign has ended and im up to DM, ive decided that since its a large group (10 players), a kingmaker would work well since alot of the spots can be filled in, and it will give them all a nice change of pace from our usual dungeon crawls.

On to the topic.

The DM had set in play some interesting rules for the game that basically promoted and rewarded xp and loot share which worked really well for us.

First off, everyone leveled at the same time, this encouraged our group to work together as bedt as possible, instead of single party members running out to gandalf all the xp.

Secondly, all loot was divided evenly between the players as well as a "kingdom fund" which we rarely used but when we did we were sure glad we had it. This ranged from bribing npcs to helping a party member get that last little bit of funding for a item he wanted to order.

Thirdly, instead of having one ruler (we still had someone fill the king slot), the pcs ruled equally. Knights of the round table style, we start the session with the pcs discussing issues, problems, concerns, ideas, etc etc. Then spend the rest of that session acting upon our agreed decisions. If it wasnt a majority vote it didnt fly.

Forthly, after we built our kingdom we slipped into a more "defend the kingdom" style of game, instead of scouting and exploring we sent out scouts (we couldnt get past the kingdoms rulers doing all the exploring while leaving the kingdom to fend for itself). Every now and then if the matters got out of hand we would personally intervine, and if there was ever a attack on the kingdom (there were quite a few) you can bet we joined the defense.

It gave the game a number of fun elements that we all highly enjoyed and made sense (to us anyways).

Im wondering if anyone out there thinks these are a good way to play the kingmaker AP, or just your thoughts in general. Im looking for feedback so I can decide if I should give my group this homebrew kingmaker, or rock it on the books.
