Ok all -- could use some advice or possible thoughts. I am playing a ranger - Archer type for class combat type and using a 2 hander for melee. We are running the Carrion Crown and I just realized if I get into combat via melee I will have a hard to time attacking incorporeal undead things such as haunts or Ghosts. I have taken undead as favored enemy but what can I do melee wise or rather what type of melee weapon would I need to be effective against them.

To be somewhat effective it's enough to make your weapon magic in nature - this can be done with a oil of magic weapon (50 gp) or a scroll of magic weapon (25 gp) you hand your cleric, wizard, sorcerer or whatever is running around in your group. It's only effective for a minute, but that is enough for most fights.
Also: There is absolutly no difference between melee and ranged weapons against incorporeal creatures.
It should also be noted that haunts are different from "normal" incorporeal enemies, but I'm not sure how much information I should give you about them - maybe your GM wants you to not understand them to keep them mysterious.
To be really effective you could enchant one or more of your weapons with ghost touch - but quite honestly, I really don't think it's worth it. You won't have the money to do so for quite some time anyways.

In my opinion there is not much that you can do against haunts directly without magic, which is discussed above. However, if your favored enemy is Undead, then you can help by noticing the haunts manifest.
By the way, Disrupt Undead is a very handy spell for your party wizard-like.
Remember that this is a horror campaign, so the event that you are completely useless in combat can be quite an opportunity for role-playing.
