Hey all,

Scenario:

Season 0, The Hydra's Fang Incident.

The party is at their final fight against the 3 lacedon in the hold.
One of the animal companions has been paralyzed.

Worst case scenario, the two greatsword hitters would fail their fort saves vs paralysis.

Would the ghouls CDG them, starting with the Animal companion, (which i'd feel bad about, but sh!t happpens.)
or would they go after the remaining team members?

CDG can be a bit of a contentious topic.

Monsters should only do so when tactically appropriate.

If there are other foes around I would generally expect the ghouls to go after them rather than opening themselves up to attacks by eating the paralyzed PCs.

Dark Archive

Ghouls are not mindless.

Yes, it's just to be sure.

I like the bunch, 2 have been players from their 1st scenario on.
To have them die against these would be a bummer.
At least they slew 1 of the three.

Dark Archive

If you're trying to softball, provoking by CDGing the animal companion is actually a thing.

The other ghoul could intimidate to demoralize.

They are allowed to be overconfident too....

PbP?

Yes, PbP.

Ghouls are not mindless, but they do tend to be ravenous. You could easily rule they just start chowing down on a paralyzed opponent (near auto hit with a bite attack) rather than CDG.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

I've used bite attacks to simulate ghoul cannibalism as well and it's a great way to create tension. Especially since there's little actual danger. They just don't do much damage.
