I am thinking of running Emerald Spire for PFS credit. Would it be bad form to create an event for the run through? Or is that common practice?
Well, if you want to report it, and I would advise doing so, having an event is de rigeur to do so.
Now, the way you want to handle it could be done in any of several ways.
It sounds like you want just a dedicated event, just for this run-through of Emerald Spire. I don't see any issues with that.
Myself, I have three active events in Paizo's Events.
One for games I run or coordinate at one of our local FLGS, 60+ tables onit, 4 digit event number, open since 2010, IIRC..
One for games I run online, when I am the coordinator, as well. Only about 6 tables on it, IIRC, fairly recent creation, as I didn't run, myself, until a couple of years ago.
One for any home games I run. Only 1 table on this one, so far. Fairly new, created after I moved to a big apartment, with room for gaming. Mainly limited by a lock of really active, consistent local gamers. I was originally going to use it for my Shattered Star run. That one died twice.
I haven't fully decided which event I should be using for my online, private, Rise of the Runelords campaign...
Sorry, TL;DR: You should be fine.
