Help with background and bio for Beastbrood Tiefling Paladin of Shelyn touched by divinity

Wrath of the Righteous

I'm trying to figure out her background and bio. She's pretty much a beastbrood (rakshasa spawn) which would mean she's most likely from Jalmeray. Of course considering who her mother is she would have the best features of both a Taldan and a Vudrani. However, since her mother is a divine being (read celestial) and she's a tiefling (read fiend) I guess the two energies would try to cancel out each other which might result in the tiefling being a hermophadite (she's meant to be btw). Of course, my problem is wouldn't Shelyn's divineness cancel out any infernal bloodline in the child's body? She is a goddess.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to helping (once I'm on my computer instead of my phone).

Can you tell me more about your vision for the character?

Sure! She pretty much be abandoned by whatever noble Vudrani family she was born into and left at the doorstep of a temple of Shelyn. Since her family suspected she might be a tiefling they didn't want any thing to do with her (trying to figure out the details of her birth and all I get is that Shelyn possessed the wife and while it appears that he Vudrani noblewoman gave birth it was actually Shelyn giving birth yeah very convoluted and not making sense but that's what I got so far). Since tieflings are considered untouchable in jalameray even priests would have to treat her as so (you can probably imagine Shelyn's shock and anger at her daughters mistreatment).

Since I'm incorporating the details from players guide for wotr concerning this campaign trait into her background she would most likely feel comfortable and at ease when she's in places holy to Shelyn as well as having dreams of where Shelyn visits her in her animal form. The tiefling eventually shows her skill in painting and dance. I think having her moving to taldor at a young age would be good and I think a female half elf paladin of Shelyn who fought in the fourth crusade might be see the tiefling (who I'm naming Kasidarra or Cerise not sure which but I'm going with the second one until I can come up with something else better) and takes cerise to taldor where she grows up (the Vudrani priests were under political and cultural pressure to mistreat her that way even though they did do what they could on being her nice to her; still working on that part). There cerise furthers her artistic talents and when the paladin discovers the tiefling has natural talent in combat when she spots her wielding a wooden sword. Then he tiefling hits puberty and well she looks like he beastbrood in the blood of fiends book except she has chestnut brown hair and blue eyes with silver flecks and that's pretty much it

On PC again!

It sounds like you're planning to play. Some of this is best discussed with the campaign's GM specifically. At the least, make sure they know that you're familiar with the "twist", as they might be upset to find out later.

First, because of the strange ways of PF biology, the child of Shelyn doesn't have to explicitly be born of Shelyn, nor does a tiefling have to be a child or descendant of a fiend.

Perhaps Shelyn merely "touched" her in the womb, having foreseen her future hardships. Perhaps the rakshasa was secretly in her mother's ancestry and Shelyn "fathered" her (directly or indirectly). Perhaps Shelyn (the love goddess) influenced events to bring her parents together, and her divine heritage is a result of that. The possession is a good explanation as well. My favorite idea is that there's no rakshasa in her lineage. Instead, a rakshasa cursed her family (or her mother specifically) and her tiefling nature is a result of that.

Regarding a tiefling child of Shelyn - perhaps this is something to do with Shelyn's nature specifically. In her eyes, she might not want to tamper with her child - loving her daughter for what she is instead of what divinity made her, sort of thing. Or perhaps distance affected things - the rakshasa was present while Shelyn influenced things from afar. It might even be a test of sorts - if you've ever read the Pathfinder fiction "Plague of Light", it illustrates this sort of thing perfectly (albeit from a different moral perspective).

Including outside NPCs in your backstory is best done with the GM's cooperation as well. Does the half-elf in question have a role to play in the future? Does something happen to her that affects Cerise? (Crippling injury/death being most likely, in my experience.)

That's all I've got for you so far. :)

Cool! Thank you! I do hope to play but I doubt it. There's only one gm in my neck of the woods and his groups fill up fast plus my busy work schedule is always a factor. Still you never know right? And hey if I don't get a chance to play this character would work great in a story (I tend to use roleplaying character sheets to help me organize my characters better).

I like the idea of the curse though. I had forgotten that rakshasa could do that in order to procreate. Now that you mention it, a rakshasa can be reborn in a new body simply by taking over an unborn child's body. Maybe Shelyn saw a very powerful rakshasa (one of the emperors of emperors among the rakshasas) and possessed the woman at the same time as the rakshasa. While Shelyn probably destroyed the rakshasa spirit with her own divine energy or spirit or mana or whatever you want to call it, the rakshasa probably cursed the woman so she would give birth to a rakshasa spawn tiefling. Of course Shelyn probably while possessing the woman's body gave birth to the tiefling before she had a chance to vacate the body.

And I haven't to read that story yet. I've actually read a few of the pathfinder novels. My favorites involve the tiefling hero. But yeah knowing Shelyn she wouldn't want to mess with her daughter as we all know Shelyn sees beauty in everyone and she preaches comes from within. Out of all of the pathfinder deities, she is the most likely (besides sarenrae and according to the blood of fiends book Desna as she is quite open minded).

I do think she would get along well with sosiel. Although you can just imagine his surprise when he learns that she is the daughter of his goddess!

And again I appreciate the tips, advice, and suggestions!

Plague of Light. It also appears as the fiction for the Serpent's Skull Adventure Path, if you have access to that.

I like the reborn-rakshasa-spirit vs. Shelyn-possession aspect.

Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

I will.

Sadly I ran into the gm and he said that he would not let anyone play a tiefling in wrath of the righteous as he feels that tieflings PCs don't make sense as you're fighting tieflings. And when I tried to explain that it does make sense to have tieflings fighting against the worldwound forces as well as their own evil heritages he said that didn't matter: his campaign his rules and the gms word is law.

Now that I think about it I do recall talking with some of his players before. They like him but he's something of a gms word is law type person. He has been known to clear your character (for example killing your character with no saves whatsoever) if you try to argue with him even if he's wrong about a rule! And he also jumps campaigns a lot. So yeah not your ideal gm. And from what I can tell he's very inflexible when it comes to rules.

Sorry for the double post but given the fact that I'm one of those people who never wastes characters I think I'll have her as a character in a story. Btw I spoke to the gm again and explained that I was still confused as to why no tieflings saying that while I understand it's is his campaign (he's thinking of running wotr but his wife is expecting so he's focused on that at the moment) but playing a tiefling who battles his evil heritage while fighting demons and other fiends at the same time does make sense and he agreed that the concept was cool but rules wise all non core races were unbalanced and he has banned all of them (he admitted that he could rewrite them so they are balanced but he didn't want to put that much work into doing something like) but he said that theme wise tieflings especially tiefling paladins don't make sense in this ap. In others yes but not in wrath of the righteous. And even in another ap he wouldn't let you play a tiefling or aasimar or a kitsune or slyph etc anyhow. And he also stated that while he's open to non core classes if he feels that the class is messing up the game he will change your character himself!

But yeah when I've gm I let players play any race they want. And I would never change a character. Players put a lot of time and effort in their characters.

But back on topic yeah I like this concept and I don't want to toss her out so I'm still going to use her. And besides I might find a gm who will let me play a tiefling paladin.

Not to bag on your GM (but I will:-p) there are two Adventure Paths where its absolutely thematically appropriate to play as Tieflings and Aasimar, Wrath of the Righteous and Council of Thieves. I hope his baby and wife come through their impending arrival with flying colors and the little one teaches him to lighten up on his players:-)

Also if it's his first one, chances are he's too busy for pathfinder for at least 6-12 months, at least :-)

Good luck!

Yeah I know what mean. I do wish a lot of luck. And this is his second actually. But yeah he's going to be busy. But council and wrath are indeed meant for aasimar and tiefling characters.

Ive always like unique characters btw
