This month you get a write-up for a little beast that we all recognize.
The May Zing is a particularly nasty bug that only comes out in spring. Existing on millions of worlds throughout the universe, these particularly fast insectoids are capable of being annoying at one point of damage for one of them, but life-threatening when their numbers get up to the dozens.
The May Zing is only heard when within a foot of its victim and often is it in the middle of a dive-bomb action to exposed skin. The May Zing uses its speed to inject its proboscis through the hide or epidermal layer, causing a flash of pain for the quarry, and the Zing ejects itself away from the target to ensure its safe escape. Most victims do not realize the attack is underway until it is too late and is left with a bleeding stab wound of about half a centimeter somewhere on their person.
One in six human victims suffer an additional allergic reaction to the wound, and one in six of those is anaphylactic in nature (once a target has an anaphylactic reaction, that person is considered “deathly allergic” without medication from here on out). Covering all exposed skin is one method of avoiding attacks, as well as bug sprays, and shielding. Spiritually sensitive people and animals (psychics, magicians, psionics, etc.) can sense the impending attacks from two meters out, which is why livestock tend to instinctively flick their tails at just the right time.

Margaretha Geertruida Zelle MacLeod is an exotic dancer famous throughout Western Europe. For the past six years, she has gained great acclaim under the stage name, Mata Hari. She performs in “authentic” Eastern costumes that are both ornately decorated and extremely revealing. Her routines combine exotic eastern dances she learned in the Dutch East Indies with her own individual style. Her popularity stems from both the European fascination with all things oriental and her willingness to shed clothing on stage.
In the winter of 1911, Mata Hari is performing in La Scala Theatre in Milan, Italy. There she captures the eye of a certain Prince Carlo and is invited to do a private rendition as “Salome” in his manor. Upon her return, she complains of general malaise and is soon too ill to continue performing.
Adventure Summary
Mata Hari’s booking agent, Gabriel Astruc, alarmed at a possible breach of contract with La Scala and disturbed by the nature of Mata Hari's illness, contacts the hunters to look into the matter. The party soon learns that Prince Carlo is a vampire who has become obsessed with the famous dancer. He is also intrigued by the fact that Mata Hari’s social circle includes several highly placed military officers, politicians, and industrialists. He has thus decided to convert Mata Hari into a vampire under his control. Through her, he intends to extend his influence throughout Europe.
