Hello there,
Sorry for the confusion! We do not charge for physical products until they are processed for shipping from our warehouse. Sometimes when an order is created, our system will try an authorization on the card just to be sure that it will go through. These authorizations generally expire within a few days on their own and are only finalized if the product is shipped while the auth is open. This is not usually a problem with regular orders because the product will generally ship before the authorization expires.
In the case of preorders, what will most likely happen is that an authorization will be opened when you create the order, but then it should expire and release the funds back to your account. Then once the product is ready to be shipped, our system will open a new authorization to make sure that the card will go through, and then finalize it immediately. If an authorization ever hangs onto your account for longer than you'd like, we can request a reversal from your bank, which should speed up the process. Ultimately, however, it depends on your bank and how quickly they handle those requests.
Hopefully this has been helpful in clarifying how authorizations work. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions and I will be more than happy to answer them.
Thanks!
Katina
