Swashbuckler Gestalt

I'm applying for a game that will likely be Gestalt and I've been wanting to play a Swashbuckler for a while so I'm set that it will be my first class but I was wondering what people thought about for the second class.

I've considered Arcanists since Exploits don't have a spell fail and they can convert spells into Exploits it would also give things like healing spells for when out of combat so I wouldn't have to worry about ACP

Feat Plans:
Level 1: Weapon Focus/Slashing Grace(+1 to hit,+dex to dmg, str to hit)
Level 3: Weapon Prof Exotic (+dex to hit)
Level 4: Quickdraw
Level 5: Dueling Mastery (+2 init and +2 ac)

Level 1: Weapon Focus/Quick Draw (+1 to hit)
Level 3: Dueling Mastery (+2 Init and +2 ac )
Level 4: Weapon Prof exotic ( +dex to hit )
Level 5: Slashing Grace ( +dex to damage )

One of the classes that combines very well is magus.

A combination that I enjoy is the Inspired Blade archetype for Swashbuckler combined with Magus. If you'd like some healing and other utility, the Hexcrafter archetype is very nice.

Magus shores up the SB's weak saves, and the SB has full BAB bonus which helps the magus quite a bit. Critting your spells on 15-20 rolls is quite effective.

The archetypes make it a Dex/Int class that relies on the rapier and has quite a bit of versatility.

As always, 2 copper, mileage may vary, etc.


I'd considered Inspired blade and still might go with it but I was really interested in the dueling mastery feat which requires a dueling sword

Dueling swords do give up crit chance being 19-20 instead of 18 which I know is a pretty big deal with swashbucklers free improved crit but getting +2ac and +2init for one feat and it has 1d8 instead of 1d6 so it might be worth the trade


It's not really 1 feat, though because you have to take quick draw which is not very much bang for your buck. Add that in with the reduced crit and it's a high cost. Let's say you choose hexcrafter magus, a feat can be Extra Hex instead of Quick Draw. Unfortunately, not all feats are created equal.
