We are going to play our first campaign in Varisia (Rise of the runelords), and I am looking for short stories, which help to get acquanted with the region. We are new to pathfinder, and I think it would be great if the characters had a solid backgound in the region. Pathfinder Tales: The Box seems very promising to build a proper background for some characters, but I hope there are other stories as well.
About the region itself I found a lot of description, but I'm looking for stories, where the characters can catch some feeling about the area.
Thank you for your help, and excuse me for my english.

there are a lot of stand alone adventures in varisia, through modules and society scenarios...
if you want to run an entire varisia flavor:
0 Beginer Box
I Rise of The Runelords
II Second Darkness
III Curse of the Crimson Throne
IV Shattered Star
Modules:
Academy of Secrets (Recommended in any place before 5th chapter of CotCT)
Seven Sword of Sin (Recommended between 1st and 2nd RotRL chapters)
Dawn of the Scarlet Sun
Feast of Ravenmoor
Murder´s Mark (1 of 2)
The Harrowing (2 of 2)
The Godsmouth Heresy
we be goblins I & II
--------------------------------
I also ask to one of my players to tell me the order that he had made for this Varisia Journey, he tells me that he delivered to me via mail in this week, i hope it can help you.
Maybe some people here have figured out an specific order to play to keep the events in golarion step by step, or maybe you can directly ask to James Jacobs on his thread Ask James Jacobs.
The thing, my friend told me that the first adventure before rotrl is that with goblins, and, you can use those goblin characters as the goblins who appears in the first module :3 interesting doesn´t it?
I don´t know nothing about scenarios, i dont play society. only bought two for the carrion crown.

Thank you very much, this list is very useful. You established our path for a year at least :)
But I would like to know which novels and short fictions are connected with Varisia in the "Fiction" section on paizo.com? Reading them could give some insight the players about the region without spoiler the moduls and the adventure paths.

You can also download the free publications from Paiza Fans United.
They have many short stories in there.

Set in Korvosa:
-Shattered Steel
-The Illusionist
-The Fencing Master
Set in Magnimar:
-In the Event of My Untimely Demise
-Blood of the City
-The Box
-Light of a Distant Star (I'm pretty sure this one is also set in Magnimar)
-Winter Witch starts in Korvosa and then has a travelogue north and farther north.
I think that's all the Varisian Fiction to date (excluding the Paizo Fans United Stuff).
And since you are starting to look at the fiction, here is a little shameless self promotion: Pathfinder Tales Chronology

Campaign Setting brand
-Varisia Birthplace of legends-Inner Sea World Guide
-Guide to Korvosa
-City of stranger
Also, players guide to RotRl. All of this help a lot, also, if your players are locals from magnimar, you can let him read city of stranger, if hi is from korvosa, then, guide to korvosa, and such. Actualy, the Korvosa guide is huge way the best city book paizo has ever made. Sadly they wont make nothing alike after this one, if you can get it, bite it, you wont regret.
By the novels, and fiction, i don´t know nothing about.
