First (Or Third Or Something?) Thoughts

Pathfinder Online

Well, Kobold Cleaver is officially involved in this s*+&!

First, important announcement: I will not tell you my nicknames. So don't ask. I am mysterious and important and wouldn't you like to know. But no. Grickin's identity shall forever remain one of PFO's greatest...aw, s+$@.

So, anyways, I ran around a bunch and shot bandits with the help of some of my excellent Tavernhold buddies. I only died once! Nearly twice, but not quite.

My Thoughts:

  • I'm having a ton of problem with a jerky mouse that moves too quickly. Adjusting my view is a constant hassle, and A and D are only a little bit easier to work with (and they don't help top or down). Worse yet, whenever I hold and move my mouse for any other reason (like when scrolling), it tends to glitch and adjust the camera. Mouse lag is driving me nuts.
  • The current state of tab targeting in the game is about as healthy for my character as the soft drink Tab is for me.
  • Scrolling through feats is really hard. In addition to filters, enabling the mouse wheel would be sweet.
  • Can you make it so mousing over the symbols in the top-left corner gives some alt-text? Just knowing the keyboard shortcut would be awesome.
  • This is more an observation than a complaint, but maaan this feat s~$% is complecartd. And I didn't even know I needed to slot Opportunist until a good while after purchasing it.
  • Dwarves are a-dworf-able. <3

    .

  • I noticed a conspicuous lack of attacks from my enemies. I suppose those cowardly mites heard I had entered the game and dove underneath their currently-not-in-the-game beds, sucking their thumbs and whimpering wordlessly. I can't say I blame them. I have that effect on people.

  • Tinyurl.com/PFOguide2 might help a bit with the feats ;)

As for the mouse, I can't say I feel your pain, but I do hope it goes away soon! I use a Logitech M570 trackball and it works wonderful. Goes for about $40 state-side.

Also, Opportunist does not really do anything for you atm. Might want to just train up a little bit of Light Blade Specialization or Bow Specialization until GW gets the Rogue Features working properly.

My guildmates heavily encouraged Opportunist, but I have Bow specialization, just in case.

I use an ordinary wireless mouse. It works find for most games, even third-persons like Guild Wars 2.

I believe you still get the Sneak attack (+10dmg) from Opportunist, just not the other part of it. "enemies hit by sneak attack are flat footed" this is HUGE for the rogue.

    Wait, crap, not guildmates. Settlemates.

    Maybe alliance mates?

Spastic mouse issues may be related to:
    1) playing on a Mac. My Mac client was uncontrollable, other people have not had the same problem.

    2) playing in fullscreen mode. Windowed mode provides much better performance in a number of areas.

Yup it's good for the sneak attack, the flat footed doesn't matter if you don't have any Rogue Reactives or attacks slotted to take advantage of it.

    Welcome home, KC!

Windowed on a Mac client for me is no problem.

Opportunist does give you the extra +10 on flatfooted. However, you do not get any of the benefits of Opportunist while you are provoking. If the group you run with is coordinated and has someone doling out Flatfooted on a regular basis, then Opportunist with the Rogue Reactives is not a bad way to go (or MoO Suffer and Opportunist for the extra damage). If not, then stick with the Fighter Feature for now.

I'm not on a Mac, and I'm not in fullscreen. :P

Good call. Opportunist and anti-flat-footed powers when traveling with a pack, Specialization when traveling solo.

It's not just on flat-footed though. The whole point of Opportunist is that it does the sneak attack damage against anyone who has opportunity. So all the ranged attack bow users and spell casters and anyone running at you with melee. Using a bow yourself you get that +10 constantly and it's easier to tag them.

(Daredevil is the one that gives sneak attack while you are the one provoking.)

Exact wording for Opportunist is: "Sneak Attack on Flat-Footed. Sneak Attack on Opportunity."

You get that +10 sneak attack damage if either condition is met.
