Looking For System Advice, Supers Plus Zombies

Other RPGs

I recently had an idea for a game, but I am unsure of which system to use. Basically the virus that reanimates the dead has a wired effect on some. In a rare few it grants them what could be called super powers. Although, the power level is more like that of pulp era or golden age. Does anyone have any system suggestions?

GURPS. Grab the core book, GURPS Supers and GURPS Horror and you're covered for zombies, supers and any other horror elements you might want.

It's a relatively simple system as well, heavy on crunch but once your characters are built it's not too bad, you're almost always just rolling 3D6. Most of the problems I've found come from the character building, when people get option paralysis since every single book in GURPS is designed to be compatible with all the others... easiest way around it is to restrict it to a couple of books (in this case I suppose core, Horror and Supers).

If I can think of any other systems I'll pop back in and let you know, but that's what sprang to mind.

You could probably use Mutants & Masterminds. It's a great system for super heroes.

I personally wouldn't recommend GURPS for most super hero gaming. It tries too hard to be realistic to feel like super heroes, IMO.

Have you looked at the GURPS Supers book? We ran a long Supers campaign using that, worked perfectly. Not gritty heroes either, we were running Golden Age style stuff.

Mutants & Masterminds
Hero System (Champions)
G.U.R.P.S.

All three handle Supers. G.U.R.P.S. is going to be a little more crunchy so the first two might better lend themselves to the pulp feel.
