What is everyone's opinion on playing alts as completely different characters in different companies with different settlements and possibly even different alignments? That's what I was planning on doing since the beginning (agreeing to join TEO with "at least one alt" as part of a Shieldmate arrangement, for example) but it seems like most people are planning to just use alts as a vassal for their main (and admittedly, that's how I've been playing it as well, basically only giving them crafting skills). Settlement/company leaders, would you frown upon a player who used alts as different and independent characters with differing allegiances?
And a semi-related question, are settlement leaders entering talks yet about training arrangements? I certainly hope they'll be making sure those needs are met, as a rambling man in both a geographical and skill area sense.

I think that a person would have to be certain that either:
1) They are capable of treating the characters as unconnected, and not sharing their resources any more than they would with any other stranger.
or
2) Go in to it, knowing that they will end up exploiting one group or the other for their preferred character's success.
If either of those things is true, then it makes perfect sense. Anything else and I think that most people would be fooling themselves.
I'd originally planned to place one character in Xeilias as a Crafter with Callambea, but I couldn't honestly guarantee that I wouldn't manipulate it for the success of one or the other, and I had no desire to do so, so I made my choice.

I'm aware of at least one player who approached me with this idea. Actually there might have been one or two more. For the Emerald Lodge I'm quite happy with such players. They have a closer tie to us but at the same time can act as ambassadors for us in a different settlement.
Off course it is up to other settlements if they allow this or if they see such players as potential spies and not as agents of trust.
I can also see this working inside a larger alliance - say TEO/Keeper or Golgotha/Callambea.
I can't see it working T7V and Golgotha.

Ultimately, member level spies are dead easy to get. Always will be. Their presence is a given, and is thus barely worth mentioning. I should imagine there will be a slightly more rigorous requirements for those of us in leadership positions, likely stipulating that you can have alts with allies, but not enemies. But really, that is for each group to decide.

I have always planned on playing my "main" character and "Destiny's Twin" in completely different ways and as completely separate entities (they no nothing of each other). That is the role player in me.
"Bluddwolf" CN, Bandit, PVP-PVE toon.
Quang Tian Zsu , LN, Monkesque, PVE toon.
1000XP Alt, CE, throw away "Bank Zombie Slayer".

Different groups will have different thoughts and policies on this subject. Some groups "guild the player" and expect his complete loyalty across all characters and accounts; with other groups, just the opposite.
The Iron Tusk Band explicitly welcomes alt characters, including 1000XP developmentally-challenged types, no matter what settlement or alignment the player's primary owes allegiance to. If you think that it might occasionally be fun to be a dumb evil orc as a break from your principal mode of play, you're welcome to come have that fun, no questions asked.

@ OP: I am already in this situation and it is a bit touchy- particularly since my DT is occupying a higher status than just a normal member. Kaelli Windswpt, my DT and crafter, is currently in the process of being accepted in to Phaeros as their Master of Chemicals (my title, not theirs... yet :). Gale, on the other hand, is still trying to liberate Blackfeather Keep and will never permanently join another settlement as a member. He is too much of a leader-type for that. Role-play wise, they are completely independent other than both of them being Wilderness Wanderers.
The trick is information. Keeping resources separate is easy. Kaelli doesn't give anything to Gale, and if Gale needs anything from Kaelli then he goes through the proper channels at Phaeros to get it. Information, on the other hand, is hard to not use and so certain boundaries need to be set up (such as Gale not trading chemicals with Phaeros, since they directly rely on me for appraising such trades).

I already have people I trade with from different factions (not being from a faction myself, one could say none of them are from my faction) so if I were in charge of a settlement, I wouldn't have a problem with somebody trading with a DT as well, unless they were like, "Hey, guild guys, can I have a bunch of equipment, for... reasons?" and then handing it off to a rival DT and using it to fight against them. In my situation, my main is a gatherer, and my alts are refiners. My refiners are just as good at refining whether they're also refining for my main or not, and my main is a better ally for having them.
