Heyo, this is my first time running a PFS game. I'm running it with a home group, who are also first timers to PFS. I'm starting them off with the Pathfinder Introduciton Scenario First Steps: Part 1. This seemed like an obvious choice to me after doing some research. What I'm not sure about is to what season I should start on after that. I'm aware that the story of the PFS has progressed throughout the seasons. Should I start play on the most recent season? Or should I go back and run some of the previous ones?

Welcome!

First Steps part 1 is pretty good.

I like to start groups with:
Master of the Fallen Fortress
The Confirmation
(And now) The Wounded Wisp

After that, which season you play is entirely up to you. You can even mix and match them if you want. Older seasons have the advantage of more advice available on particular scenarios. Find the shared drive (I don't have the link handy), it will be helpful and time saving.

Personally, my favorite seasons are 2 and 3. Seasons 4 and 5 are a bit harder, so if your players want more challenging scenarios, consider those.

Also, there are several "campaigns" posted on here with different themes. See if you can find some of those. Some of the themes include: scenarios within the same region; scenarios based on the VC assigning missions; scenarios based on certain plot lines; etc.

Really, it is up to you.

From my own experience, I started PFS half way through Season 5 last year and just struck to that but as the story progressed I realized that some of the scenarios were tied to older storylines. Before getting to the end of season 5 I altered my plans and ran some older scenarios in order to introduce my players to the Blakros family and one of the villains of season 5. (My players however formed a different theory and believe Temel Passad is the pathfinders true arch enemy and eagerly await the day they can get their revenge against him).

Having played and read some season 6 Scenarios, I learned that several storylines from the past are coming back and decided to hold off starting season 6 and am instead running some scenarios from season 2. I picked a series of scenarios to form a Rise and Fall of the Shadowlodge. But in the story arc are some key scenarios that tie to season 6.

Our local Venture Lieutenant started running scenarios at a new place and just stuck to the season 4 scenarios so far. From what I heard, its mostly newer players and has been quite popular there.

From what I've seen, being able to tie scenarios together into a larger story is a good way to help keep the players involved and interested. You learn a little bit more each time as the story progresses. Its just not always a new face. Its amusing when the players go "THIS guy again..." and there is some deep satisfaction being able to finally fight someone you met in a previous scenario or had eluded the players.

At the end of season 5, my players were told to bring someone back alive, half of them had no intention of letting him leave. For every time a bad guy had stabbed them in the back and whispered "Soandso Desomething sends his regards" they had formed a bit of a grudge against him. They were quite thrilled with the chance to get some revenge...

One thing I will add, when Paizo runs their PDF sales the older scenarios are usually 30% off. I use it as a good time to load up on popular scenarios, low tier scenarios, and ones that just sound interesting (or may hold some lore I desire to learn more about).

be careful with first steps. the final combat can be quite deadly. it's generally best not to slaughter someone on their first attempt.

confirmation and wounded wisp are both excellent introductions that encompass what it means to be a pathfinder, whereas fallen fortress is a straightforward dungeon crawl with lots of opportunities for murder-hoboing. you will find some scenarios are more tailored to a diplomatic party than others.

the best thing you can do for running is be prepared. read the scenario a few times. go over any special abilities or spells you have at your disposal. and most importantly, be ready to throw all that out the window when one of your players inevitably goes off script and you have to think on your feet. PFS is not set up for sandbox mode, so you may need to railroad the PCs back to the story at hand.

Silver Crusade 4/5

I would recommend The Mists of Mwangi with the use of Faction Missions. Though Faction Missions are no longer required. It will allow newer players to be receptive of their environment.
