Why isn't Replaying Scenarios in the FAQ?

I just looked through the FAQ and didn't find anything on it.

I did a forum search and found pages and pages of this question and a lot of it was old info.

I'm trying to find out the ruling on this, as it stands now.

While I do have the Pathfinder Society Organized Play Guide, version 4.1 of Jan 30 2012. It clearly states for one character that - You cannot receive more than 1 player Chronicle and 1 GM Chronicle for the same scenario, regardless of how many times you GM or play the scenario.

The issue is, there's a lot of rumors and posts floating around that you can play, and get credit, if you run a different character with a different faction through a scenario you have already played.

I know at one time this was not legal but has it been changed?

Because the rules on replay are in the Guide, they don't have to be in the FAQ. The FAQ is there to answer questions not specifically dealt with in the Guide.

The version 4.1 is the most current version, and is the rules we are playing under at this time.

At one point in time, you could not replay, then you could but only if you played a different faction. However, now, we are back to no replay except for Teir 1 scenarios or modules. Please note, this is not the same as Tier 1-5 or Tier 1-7 scenarios.

So, in short, replay is not allowed for credit. You can play once for credit and GM once for credit for the vast majority of scenarios available.

I would imagine it's not in the FAQ because it hasn't changed. Maybe they'll change the replay rules in the new guide, but for now just go by what's in the Guide. No need for a FAQ.

If they FAQ'd everything that people on the forums get wrong at one point or another, the FAQ would be longer than the CRB. :D

It has not been changed recently. The info in v4.1 (v4.2 is due out next week) is still accurate. Any rumors to the contrary are inaccurate (edit: or outdated -- Sniggevert's post brings up something that I didn't know, that it was allowed at one point, but no longer).

It is true that you can, technically, replay a scenario, but not for credit. Even then, this is pretty much only true if (a) your butt is needed in that seat in order to make a table happen, and (b) the GM knows that you're replaying, and is OK with it.

Replaying is not in the FAQ because it is spelled out clearly in the Guide 4.1, you may receive one credit for playing and 1 for GMing a given scenario, with some exceptions for level 1 scenarios and level 1 sanctioned modules.

Those rumors are leftovers from old versions of the Guide which did allow such a thing, but this has not been legal since well before the 4.0 Guide was published.

EDIT: Wow, mass ninja'd.

If it changes, this will be in the Guide to Organized Play. I'll have to dig around and find the quote where this is in the current copy. Now you can replay Tier 1 scenarios and Tier 1-2 modules for credit with different characters which is where you may have gotten the current thought of replaying stuff.

EDIT: How many times was I ninja'd there?

Thanks for all the prompt replies.

Had to ask because someone I know that goes way back with Pathfinder was quoting the old Pathfinder rules Sniggevert mentioned. That at one time it was legal to replay on a different character as long as it was a different faction. Which was not quite matching up with what I was reading in the guide.

Why I looked, and think it should belong, in the FAQ.
Do a search on replaying scenarios. You'll find 25 pages of posts on the topic, which will get you more confused if you start reading through them.

I seems counter-productive to me to include answers in the FAQ when the rules are clearly spelled out in the latest version of the campaign rules. If we did that, then any time there was a change to the rules in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play, the Paizo staff would have to go in and update the FAQ with the same exact information that is in the Guide.

In essence, the Guide has the rules and the FAQ has clarifications. This topic does not need clarification as it's clearly spelled out in the Guide.
