Alpha stress test lag

I have logged in the past two nights and experienced lag so bad that the game was unplayable. I updated my drivers as the invite e-mail suggested. I don't have a problem playing any other games and I didn't have anything running in the background. Obviously it's on my side though, since many people are in the game and playing. What can I do to improve performance? There is like a 2 second delay for my character to react to commands. Please help. Thanks.

How much RAM do you have? If it's 4 GB, you're probably going to have issues.

It's either 6 or 8. I'm not at that PC right now, but I know it's not 4. I have a lot of available memory. I'll try to remove some games tonight that I don't play, but I don't think that's the issue. I play DDO and run that on a pretty high graphics setting with no issues.

Remember that, for now, comparisons to how other games run won't necessarily be instructive, as PFO's code has yet to be optimised to run its best.

I think I have a better graphics card lying around that I pulled out of my previous PC when the motherboard died. Maybe that will help.

If you are using a 32 bit windows version you may need to use the BCEdit allocation trick.

Publish CPU speed, OS version, 32/63 bit operation, Ram, graphic card and memory tonight when you can get to the computer.
What else are you running when you are playing?
what video quality (command line switch) are you using?

I logged on last night with my son's computer, much newer, and had a much better experience. So it's definitely the computer. The PC I originally tried with has 6 GB and a quad core processor all at 2.93. It's 64 bit Windows 7. I pulled out an ATI Radeon 4200 graphics card today that came with it and replaced it with a GeForce 9600 card that I had. I'll test it tonight. Thanks for the responses. I'll report back later.

Lam,
Where would I find video quality (command line switch)? You'll have to explain it to me like I'm 10 though. When I say I pulled out the graphics card and repolaced it, what I mean is I watched someone do it for me. I'm not very computer savvy.

With a new graphic card installed, I am now able to log in and play. Thanks again for the replies all.
