Hey everyone!
The game just came out in Germany, basically they released the base set, character add-on and all of the Rise of the Runelords adventures.
Since the translation is just ... ok I guess, I have some very basic rules questions (I understand these must look stupid to you, playing the game for a long time, but just starting and with the translation barrier, these are really unclear)
So here goes:
1. If I'm playing Valeros, he says that if a weapon card tells me to discard it, I can recharge it instead.
So the short sword for excample says, that I can reveal it to add 1d6 to my melee check (usually 1d10 +3) and I can add another 1d6 if I discard it.
So I reveal it, then discard it - but instead of discarding it, I can recharge it - and have a melee of 1d10+3 + 2d6, and I dont even lose the weapon for the whole scenario, but keep it under my deck for drawing it later on possibly.
That seems extremely strong. Is that correct?
2. When attempting a check, where do other characters have to be in order to be able to play cards for assisting me? Do they have to be at the same location? Or can someone at a different location play a blessing to add a die to my check e.g.?
3. The Henchman card "poison trap" from the 2nd base scenario says that it requires a 5 check to overcome and lists Dexterity and Disarm(?)(not sure of English original name, I'd translate as disarm).
So I can make a check for dexterity 5? Or do I have to specificly roll for disarm, which is is a special trait of dexterity checks? So I would have to roll a D4 in this case, because my character doesnt have disarm?
I guess just rolling for Dex sems correct, but the game seems so easy so far...
4. There is a barrier card in the German set that seems to be "trapped chest" in the English version. While other chests in the German version list "items" or "weapons" as rewards for defeating the barrier, this one speaks of what I would translate as "equipment" as a reward - but the German word which is equivalent to "equipment" is not defined in the rulebook, there's just weapons, armor, items, loot.
What does the English card refer to?
Really looking forward to answers from some seasoned veterans here!
Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi Furo!
1. If I'm playing Valeros, he says that if a weapon card tells me to discard it, I can recharge it instead.
So the short sword for excample says, that I can reveal it to add 1d6 to my melee check (usually 1d10 +3) and I can add another 1d6 if I discard it.

That is all correct. Valeros is very good at melee combat...
2. When attempting a check, where do other characters have to be in order to be able to play cards for assisting me? Do they have to be at the same location? Or can someone at a different location play a blessing to add a die to my check e.g.?
Characters can be at any location, there's no restriction. BUT some cards and powers will state their own restrictions in their text. Examples:
- Most bows allow you add 1d4 to a combat check at another location (so, not the same location as the character with the bow)
- Valeros has a character power that helps a character making a combat check at his location
- Blessings can be played on any check, anywhere, because they don't state a restriction
3. The Henchman card "poison trap" from the 2nd base scenario says that it requires a 5 check to overcome and lists Dexterity and Disarm(?)(not sure of English original name, I'd translate as disarm).

I guess just rolling for Dex sems correct, but the game seems so easy so far...
The English name for this skill is "Disable".
When a check shows several skills like that, you have to choose one: Dexterity 5 OR Disable 5. So usually you'll choose the one you're best at. In Rise of the Runelords, only Merisiel has the Disable skill so she'll normally choose that, and other characters will probably want to choose Dexterity.
But having said that, you might choose Disable for some other reason. If Valeros has a card that adds 1 die to his Disable check, he may have a better chance by choosing Disable and rolling 2d4, than by choosing Dexterity and rolling 1d8. Note that he cannot choose Dexterity and then play "add 1 die to your Disable check", because he has chosen to make a Dexterity check, not a Disable check. For Valeros, Dexterity and Disable are two different, unrelated skills.
If you choose a skill that is based on another skill on your character card, the check counts as being on both skills. What I mean is, suppose Merisiel meets a Poison Trap. She chooses to make the Disable 5 check. On her character card, it says "Disable: Dexterity + 2". So Merisiel's Disable check also counts as Dexterity check. This is only because the skill chosen for the check (Disable) is based on another skill (Dexterity) for this character. So Merisiel could play both "add 1 die to your Disable check" and "add 1 die to your Dexterity check" on this Disable check.

I think you're referring to the Trapped Locker, but off the top of my head I'm not sure what it contains... rather than mislead you I will let someone else answer.

Hi Nefrubyr and thanks a lot for your replies and your well thought-through examples!
Very well written, clears up all my uncertainties 100% I think. Thank you very much.
For #4, the trapped locker: Thanks for providing the correct English name, I found it on google, it says to add 1 random armor from the box to your hand - German version said 1d4 "Equipment" (what a huge mess up ...)

FuroKazuya, if you have any other translation issues with the cards, you should post them here to that the designers can fix them with errata and FAQs.
Sorry for your confusion with the card and hope you're enjoying the game! And don't be afraid to ask questions here. We'll try to steer you in the right direction like Nefrubyr did.
[EDIT: FuroKazuya, you also know that with blessings, you can only play one per check but your party members can also play one blessing (per character) on the same check. So for that Dexterity/Disable, you could play a blessing from your hand and another party member could play a blessing from their hand. Sometimes when you are allowed to play blessings is confusing.]
