So my players have acquired the Boarding Pike of Repelling, and the player that has it is asking if it can be used for a purpose other than striking at targets 20 feet away.
His plan is that he could run towards a wall or other obstacle with the pike, and then striking the ground directly in front of the obstacle. Then, as propelling forward (using the boarding pike as a pole vault), extend the boarding pike of repelling to its full length in order to gain greater height to get over taller obstacles.
Can I get some input if you guys think he should be able to do this? Of course, if it were allowed, the player would have to make the appropriate Acrobatics roll in order to make such a feat.

I don't think the pike is designed to act as a pole vault as far as the rules go but if you wanted to allow this, I doubt it's a big deal. I'd probably just allow him to make the normal acrobatics check for jumping across the gaps between ships (which I bet is what he wants to do) with a +2 bonus if I were to allow something like this.

there's a hook on it and a trailing rope... mighty useful that it can extent 20ft too... (extend, hook, swing across other ship, chasm, tree, etc.; also use it to fish people out of the water or 30ft deep pit, etc.)
my rogue (pirate archetype) has greatly appreciated that item, why with his Swinging Reposition (Ex) ability and all... ;)
