I'm still not sure what to do on Thursday with my Swashbuckler

So the additional resources now say

Quote:
All playtest versions of the ten new base classes from this book are no longer legal for play as of 8/14/14. Anyone playing the playtest version of one of the ten new base classes must have updated his or her character as of 8/14/14. Updating your character means adjusting only the things that have changed, but not rebuilding the character.

I currently do not have access to the Advanced Class Guide, but I do know this, Slashing Grace has changed, and my Swashbuckler does not meet the new requirements. The additional resources say to adjust the things that changed, does this mean that I need to switch Slashing Grace to a different feat because I no longer meet the requirements? I'm going to assume the answer here is yes.

Since I no longer qualify for Slashing Grace, does the new feat for first level need to be one that I qualified for at first level? Can the feat be one I that took at Third and switch my Third level feat as an adjustment? In this case I took Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Aldori Dueling Sword at third level, could I move this to my First Level feat and make my Third level feat Weapon Focus: Aldori Dueling Sword so that I can take Slashing Grace (Aldori Dueling Sword) at Fifth level?

Additionally, the character in question is currently in a play by post that will not finish before Thursday, do I need to update the character as soon as Thursday comes and thus change in the middle of the play by post session or am I allowed to continue to use the playtest rules for the character until the play by post concludes?

If you don't have the new book, I believe your character is not legal for play as of Thursday. Buy the PDF is your best bet.

I believe it was stated elsewhere, specifically regarding PbP, that you get to finish the game first.

I thought I read that, too, but now can't find it... or was that for factions?

This is correct, as the playtest document will no longer be legal, and you must still have access to the appropriate Additional Resource to use the class.

I believe this is also correct, due to characters being "locked in" during an adventure.

Personally, I'm playing my swashbuckler in Thornkeep level three, starting on this past Friday, and ending this Friday, but it's an in-person game. I talked to my VC (who happens to be the GM) about it beforehand, and we came to the conclusion that the "lock-in" would take precedence over the update, but we did not have any official ruling from the campaign staff to back it on, so YMMV.

As to Slashing Grace, the Guide actually does cover updating characters from playtests.

Playtests and Errata

The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game is a living game, and whether in the form of a playtest that varies from its final incarnation, conversion from the 3.5 rules set to the Pathfinder RPG, or an errata or FAQ to the Core Rules, sometimes game elements change in the course of a PC’s career. The following guidelines allow players to update or convert existing characters to use the most current rules. When rebuilding your character in any way, you must describe all changes on your next Chronicle sheet in the Notes section, and your GM must initial that section.

If a feat or trait changes or is removed from the Additional Resources list: You have two options. First, you may either switch the old feat for an updated feat of the same name in another legal source (if available), ignoring any prerequisites of the new feat you do not meet. Alternatively, you may replace the feat entirely with another feat for which you meet all the prerequisites.

Note that paragraph one refers to this as "updating", so this meshes with what the Additional Resources says about updating your playtest character.

So, according to the Guide, since this feat changed, you are allowed to use another feat with the same name from "another legal source" (in this case, the final book), while ignoring the prerequisites, or you may replace the feat.

That said, unless another feat or trait changed, or something else changed that would fall under the other two clauses I didn't quote, that is ALL you can do with the character.

Joy! Just get a GM signature that you're ignoring the prereq because of the grandfather clause there and you should be GTG!

Edit: Aw, ninja'd.

Well, I have Slashing Grace Longsword and I'm pretty sure if I want to have fun with the Aldori Dueling Sword I.E. use other Aldori Dueling Sword feats I will need Slashing Grace Aldori Dueling Sword rather then continuing to treat my Aldori Dueling Sword as a Longsword.
