for the worm that walks trait it specifically says that it is immune to physical damage from spells.
I have yet to see a spell that says it causes physical damage, which to my understanding is things like piercing, bludgeoning, slashing.
Can someone provide examples of physical damage from spells since this seems like a important rule to understand since my group is about to go up against a worm that walks

Ice Storm does 3d6 bludgeoning damage.
Wind Blades does d6 (or more) slashing damage.
Chord of Shards does 2d6 piercing damage.
They are fairly rare, though.
To answer your real question, though, the Worm That Walks is not immune to spells that deal physical damage. They are immune to "any physical spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures". This is completely different, the work "physical" is there to distinguish between that and mental spells, which it references later.
So it's immune to slow, since it't a non-mental spell and targets a specific number of creatures (unless it casts it on itself).
Ice Storm does not target a specific number of creatures, so the Worm That Walks can be damaged by it. In fact, because it's an area of affect spell, the WTW takes 50% more damage than normal. So if you rolled 10 bludgeoning damage and 7 cold damage the WTW would take 15 bludgeoning (reduced to 0 by DR) plus 10 cold damage.
