I'm also hoping the a-hole bureaucrats in New Mexico will get off their lazy butts and give me my PE license. I'm getting tired of waiting. It's been over a month.
Yesterday I ordered Dragonslayer on 4K. It should arrive by Wednesday.
I had a mostly good drive in. Until I was about to get on the Interstate and a police officer pulled up behind me to flash his lights. This puzzled me, since I hadn't been going too fast and the only lane change I did without my blinker was to dodge around someone who cut over two lanes of traffic suddenly. So I start to pull out of the way, and as soon as I did he turned his lights off and sped onto the interstate, leaving me stuck on the feeder road.
What an a-hole.
So I had to sit through two lights I usually don't have to bother with.
I hope he has a miserable day. And a miserable rest of the week, as well.
Anyway, now I'm firmly ensconced in my office. I have coffee. I am (somewhat) content.
Yesterday was a far more agreeable workday than I anticipated. I'm hoping today will be equally agreeable. It should at least be entertaining.
We did start two new designers - one mechanical, one electrical. They both seem like cool dudes.
Last week I got an invite to a kick-off meeting that was yesterday. I thought I received it by mistake, so I didn't go to the meeting. Turns out, it's a project they want me on. Who'd a thunk it.
Oooh....that last sentence would have given my aunt a fit. She was a teacher. Growing up, she was always correcting us when we misspoke.
Still waiting on those damned bureaucrats in New Mexico.
Damn! I just realized I got 12 ounces of coffee in my first cup, instead of the usual 14 ounces.
'Twas a bit windy this morning, but not too bad otherwise. And I had a decent drive in (no a-hole cops messing with me). An adequate start to a new day.
I've got at least two meetings and one training seminar today.
The first meeting is our weekly for the pipeline project near Corpus Christi. I expect that one to be very annoying. Seems like every time we have one of these, the client changes his mind about something and causes massive redesigns.
The second meeting is for one of the gas metering stations we've developed for a client over the past few years. Those projects are all nearly complete, thank the gods. On one of them, they're apparently having trouble with the flow control valve, and want our assurances the valve was sized correctly. Which, of course, is something I wasn't involved in. So I'm not really sure why I was invited.
The training seminar is being put on by the Louisiana board that oversees professional engineers. In order to maintain a license, you have to have a certain number (varies by state) of professional development hours each year. At least one of those has to be an ethics course. Louisiana is making this available for free, which is nice. I don't expect it to take too long.
And I still don't have word from those bureaucratic a-holes in New Mexico about my license there.
Anyway, I've got a good bit of stuff to do today.
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
My stupid headset isn’t working! Now I’ll have to contact IT to see what the hell’s up with them.
Thankfully, I have my own earbuds with which to participate in my training seminar. So no one else has to listen to what I’m listening to.
Incidentally, the moderator of the of the seminar seems to be very down on Texas. Considering she’s stuck in Louisiana, she doesn’t really have much to brag about.
Ooh…. They’re going over the Challenger explosion. I remember seeing that happen.
So far, anyway. I'm hoping it stays that way.
Despite my leaving the house a few minutes later than I've usually been doing, I still had a really good drive to work. That is, once I got past the buses and that one idiot barely going the speed limit. After that it was actually pretty smooth sailing.
Be prepared!
Coworker came over asking if I had a philips head. Of course I did. Granted, it was part of a multi-tool, but it works nearly the same.
We're supposed to have a Happy Hour this afternoon. Even though I wouldn't drink, I may still go over there. It'd give me an excuse to leave the office early.
Bummer - the comic book I was expecting in the mail yesterday was delayed until today.
Not bummer - My 4K copy of Godzilla Minus One is now apparently arriving two days earlier than previously expected.
The design review we had yesterday was not as bad as I expected. Especially since I didn't have to sit through most of it. There were very few minor changes suggested by the client. Mostly moving the pumps and removing some unnecessary lines.
Well, some good news, not quite bad news, and middle of the road news.
Good news - my buddy finally told the really annoying client if they want more work from us it won’t be free. Those jacknuts have been hitting us for awhile with small requests.
Not quite bad news - now I’ve got more HDD calculations I have to do for these a-holes.
Middle of the road news - those calcs aren’t too hard and should take me way less than the 2 work days we told them.
And so far the dog has behaved herself today. Yesterday she ate a bowl and a sweatshirt.
Near as I can tell, I’m currently only waiting on one item to be delivered to my house now. That should arrive sometime next week, though. It’s coming from the left coast.
So now I’m debating whether I read the thing that arrived today or watch TV.
I’ll probably end up reading the thing, then watching TV.
And a bit of time spent reading might be just the thing to let my dinner settle.
Mmmm…..steak.
Ooohhhh….but first! Methinks the dishwasher is finally done. Which means it’s time to wash a load of clothes.
I've been up for almost two hours now!
Normally, after my first alarm goes off, I might lay back down for a bit. I couldn't get back to sleep this morning, though. So I jumped on D4 for a bit.
I was pleasantly surprised at the update that made a certain part of the game a bit easier and more fun. Not sure if it's permanent, but I liked it.
And I think I just lost about 3 pounds!
I started re-watched The Expanse the other night. It might just be the last series I watch on Amazon for a while. Those commercials they added are really annoying.
I cannot forget to get my daughter her lunch for today. She likes it when I make it for her on Fridays.
Tonight I'll take a break from The Expanse to watch Dragonslayer. Great movie.
When I got up this morning, I realized the heat was on. Since I didn't turn it on (not cold enough yet), I assumed it was my wife.
*shakes fist*
Okay!
Daughter's lunch = Made
Second cup of coffee = Brewed
Work = Yeah, there's stuff.
Luckily, few of the other folk I have to deal with are online or at work yet. So it's quiet for me at the moment.
I've heard reviews of Gladiator 2 that say it's not really very good. That's sad. It seems Sir Ridley is very hit and miss in his later years.
With perhaps more misses than hits.
