As much as I love the work of Mike Flanagan, I really don't think he should be attempting a remake of The Exorcist. Why try and improve upon perfection? There's no way he can possibly make a better movie, even with such awesome cast members as Scarlett Johansson and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It just isn't possible to make a better film.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of...

There's a ton of lore about that film. Deaths. Accidents. Sets burning down. All kinds of crazy stuff. William Friedkin used to fire guns on set to get better responses from actors. Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair both suffered severe back injuries. The bedroom set was so cold, they set up a special warming room for actors when they couldn't take it anymore.

If a lot of that stuff happened on a set today, they'd probably cancel production.

The wisdom of Sam Raimi - He says the best comic book movies draw directly from the source material. I would argue that any movie made from any published book/comic/etc, is best when you follow the source material as closely as possible.

Dune, parts 1 & 2 are great examples of both when this advice is followed and when it is not.

Scarab Sages

In theory, it should be a somewhat busy day. I've got job hunting to attempt. I've got bills to pay. Have to download and sign a release form for the boy's camping trip this weekend.

For the camping trip, I also have to make sure he reads through and prints the certificate for a safety training brief. It's for ATV riding. Same as the release form I have to sign. And we'll have to wash a load of his clothes. And he has to pack for his trip.

And the wife has a diagnostic test later today. That's going to cost a few hundred dollars. It's necessary though. And it's something I've been pushing her to get done for awhile now. She was originally trying through her doctor, but that was taking too long. So she's going with some other outfit.

It always sucks trying to get specialist stuff or certain types of tests done. Been that way for years now (about 15), and only gets worse it seems.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah! My wife's diagnostic test went FAR better than expected. No seriously bad thing. Just a very annoying thing they should have a fix for.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah again!! My dinner is here. After that I have to bring the boy to the church for his camping trip.

Scarab Sages

Well, the boy is off on his camping trip with the scouts. It's a small group this time, so they only needed three vehicles. And they didn't need to bring the troop trailer because they won't be cooking. The camp is serving food.

Scarab Sages

And since Sunday is Scout Sunday, the troop is actually coming back early. So I'll have to go over to the school tomorrow evening sometime to pick him up when they get back.

Scarab Sages

I found out the other day that HBO decided to release episode four of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms two days early. So I'll be watching it tonight. Apparently, the Super Bowl is Sunday and they don't want to go up against it.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think the Super Bowl is the Patriots and Seahawks. So two teams I could care less about.

Scarab Sages

Watching a show on YouTube, and someone sent a Super Chat asking of three books Martin could put out (Winds of Winter, another Dunk and Egg, or Fire and Blood 2), which would you like to see.

That's a tough one. While I'd love to see Winds of Winter, I don't think he'll ever finish the whole series. So whether we're one or two books shy doesn't really matter. Dunk and Egg would be cool, as those are typically just easy-read novellas with really likable characters. I've never read Fire and Blood, so I have no opinion on that one.

Scarab Sages

Aaahhh, damn! That was an awesome episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. So accurate to the written story. It sucks I have to wait over one week for the next episode.

ARE THERE NO TRUE KNIGHTS AMONG YOU?

Scarab Sages

Then I did a rewatch of Peppermint, the 2018 revenge film starring Jennifer Garner. If you like seeing gangbangers and corrupt officials get taken down by a woman hell bent on avenging her family, then watch this. It’s a great movie.

Scarab Sages

The fur baby is chilling on the sofa, looking all cute and innocent. I know the truth though. She’s very evil.

Scarab Sages

I saw that Twisted Sister had to cancel all their upcoming shows because Dee Snider quit. He’s having health issues. I can sympathize.

Back when I lived Philly, I was taking some night classes for a Master’s Degree. This was over 20 years ago. Driving home from those classes, I’d listen to Snider’s radio program. He was really cool, and would put on a good show.

Scarab Sages

I never did finish that Master’s Degree. It just didn’t seem worth the time it would take. And wouldn’t have gotten me any extra money anyway.

Scarab Sages

I see in the news Daniel Stern is up on charges of soliciting prostitution. I have an uncle that was caught doing that. He’s a real a-hole.

We used to call him The Hot Dog King because he once had to ask my mom how to cook hot dogs. He’s scum in other ways as well, but I won’t go into that.

Scarab Sages

I’m debating whether I want to watch that movie The Rip, with Matt Damon and Ben Afleck. It looks pretty cool.

Scarab Sages

Happy Saturday!

Scarab Sages

It's supposed to be a bright, sunshiny day. Highs are expected to be in the upper 70s. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

And I (hopefully) get a chance to harass a new hire at the comic book store today. If they go with who was apparently the favorite, it'll be....interesting.

Scarab Sages

Had an awesome Book of the Face memory from 11 years ago of my baby girl walking for the first time. She went right from standing to walking, which took us by surprise.

Her brother had done the whole I'm going to use this furniture to hold myself up and walk around for a good while. Then he moved on to taking tentative steps before finally going full walker mode.

Scarab Sages

Oh joy! Apparently, we're getting "toxic masculinity" Skeletor in that new Masters of the Universe movie. Which pretty much guarantees I'll never bother to watch that film.

If I could go back in time, I'd find the person who came up with the godawful term and insult them until they cried. It probably wouldn't take much.

F#$@ing commie.

Scarab Sages

A sequel to the 2003 movie House of the Dead? Why?!? That movie was horrid. Isn't there some law against cruel and unusual punishment?

Scarab Sages

I see that yet another car company is taking a big financial loss because they overestimated the popularity and usefulness of EVs. I'm not surprised. The bottom had to drop out of that scam at some point.

Scarab Sages

Did you ever notice that modern "country music singers" are nigh on indistinguishable from pop musicians. As is there so called "country music". Utter crap, is what it is.

Probably pushed by the filthy commies.

Scarab Sages

It's crap like that makes me even more angry at the a-holes who bought the country legends music station here and turned it into some kind of religious music station.

Gee, thanks. You did away with one of the few good music stations in the entire city.

Scarab Sages

There was a news article about some Hooters location. That chain has been in the news a few times lately. Which surprised me, because I had kind of forgotten it existed.

Scarab Sages

A North Dakota college is apparently offering a 3-year Applied Science degree by cutting out a bunch of credit hours. So it sounds like they're toying with ending what has become the typical "high education" scam of a "well-rounded education" in favor of actually offering something more useful.

Scarab Sages

There was another article about some chick named Kay Adams and her NFL advertisement. I had to look up who she was.

Scarab Sages

Same with another article about the death of the son of a "famous rapper". I saw his name and had no idea who he was. I'm guessing by "famous" they meant in the last 5 years or so.

It sucks about the death of his son, though. I would not wish that on any parent.

Scarab Sages

Anyway... not much planned beyond the usual Saturday. Big difference is I won't have the boy with me most of the day.

Although I am considering playing a bit of a joke on him for when he gets home later this evening. The garbage can is nearly full, and I'm thinking about leaving it that way and having him change it as soon as he walks in the door.

Scarab Sages

Hmmmm....maybe I should look into a new career writing fluff pieces about crappy TV shows/movies/video games. It appears to be a somewhat lucrative Enterprise.

Scarab Sages

I got back from the grocery store before the wife had to leave to pick up the daughter from art class. So we both went, and then they came with me to the comic book store.

Which kind of sucked because I had to avoid buying some mildly expensive back issues. Instead, I made sure to have the guys put the issues in my box. The wife suspects, but I think I was able to convince her it was something else.

Scarab Sages

I did some mild harassing of the new kid. There were a lot of people, though. So she was kind of busy and I didn’t want to interrupt her work.

Scarab Sages

It’s turned into a really pretty day, just as I suspected it might. I shall take advantage of the weather to brush the canine out in the backyard.

Scarab Sages

The wife called down asking me what the PIN was for the computer. I told her, and also mentioned it was taped to the side of the computer.

A few minutes later, I had to go up and type it in myself. Apparently, she failed to see the big piece of paper with “PIN” written across the top, taped right were I said it would be. If only she had turned her head slightly to the left….

Scarab Sages

Laundry is done for the day. New comic reading is done for the day. And now it's getting near dinner time. I have stuff for myself, some leftover smoked turkey. Not sure what the wife and daughter will eat.

Scarab Sages

I'm in the mood to watch another movie tonight. Maybe something from my collection. I've got a lot to choose from. Hell, maybe I could be a wild man and start rewatching some of the MCU, back from when it was actually good.

Though I'm still waiting on word from the scout troop when they might return tonight. So any movie watching might have to wait until the boy is back home. I had hoped they'd have posted something in Slack by now....

Scarab Sages

Henry Cavill is doing a Voltron movie?!? Could be good, but I'm cautiously pessimistic. As much as I enjoy his performances, the dude seems to have the worst agent offering him roles in shows/movies that either are horrible (see: Enola Holmes, Argyle), or start out good then get ruined by a-holes (see: The Witcher).

Scarab Sages

I am tempted to try and see that movie Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die in the theater when it comes out. It looks...amusing.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday?!?

Scarab Sages

I don't know. Maybe? I don't have much planned for the day. It starting off cloudy, foggy and chilly. The sun's supposed to come out later this afternoon though, and the temp will climb into the upper 70s.

Scarab Sages

Today is Scout Sunday, and the troop is going to the 9 am mass. Some of them expect to see the boy and I there, but that's a no go. For one, I really don't feel like leaving that early (especially when I'm still working my way through my second cup of coffee). For two, the dear Lord and I currently have an....adversarial relationship. Meaning he treats me like dog crap, and I'm angry at him for it (and rightly so).

Scarab Sages

I did see an email last night from the dude leading the Philmont High Adventure trip this summer. He and his wife are doing a hike this afternoon, and were looking to see if any of the scouts wanted to join them. It's kind of last minute, but I'm going to push the boy into going. Might not even give him a choice.

Incidentally, the reason the dude's wife is going on the trip is because they couldn't convince me to do it. Not that I don't want to. I think it would be really enjoyable, and a nice adventure. It's just that, from a health perspective, I honestly don't think I'd be able to make through such a physically demanding trip.

Scarab Sages

Of course, it doesn't help that the dear Lord saw fit to deprive me of a job, and now I have to focus a good bit of my time on trying to keep my career alive. So I wouldn't have the money to participate anyway. Hell, I'll be lucky to be able to pay for the boy.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of the boy.....

Since he has off of school next week (for yet another teacher vacation), the wife signed him up for a driving class. So we're starting that now. Although he's over a year away from actually getting his driver's license.

Damn! How the time flies. It seems like only yesterday, when the real FAWTLY was still around, that I was announcing the wife and I having a baby.

Scarab Sages

Someone trying to connect the Dalai Lama with Epstein?!? Sounds like a plot by filthy commies.

Scarab Sages

A Florida apparently went so fast on his motorcycle it caught fire. They arrested him for it.

I'm sorry! I thought this was AMERICA?!?
