As much as I love the work of Mike Flanagan, I really don't think he should be attempting a remake of The Exorcist. Why try and improve upon perfection? There's no way he can possibly make a better movie, even with such awesome cast members as Scarlett Johansson and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It just isn't possible to make a better film.

Speaking of...
There's a ton of lore about that film. Deaths. Accidents. Sets burning down. All kinds of crazy stuff. William Friedkin used to fire guns on set to get better responses from actors. Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair both suffered severe back injuries. The bedroom set was so cold, they set up a special warming room for actors when they couldn't take it anymore.
If a lot of that stuff happened on a set today, they'd probably cancel production.

The wisdom of Sam Raimi - He says the best comic book movies draw directly from the source material. I would argue that any movie made from any published book/comic/etc, is best when you follow the source material as closely as possible.
Dune, parts 1 & 2 are great examples of both when this advice is followed and when it is not.

In theory, it should be a somewhat busy day. I've got job hunting to attempt. I've got bills to pay. Have to download and sign a release form for the boy's camping trip this weekend.
For the camping trip, I also have to make sure he reads through and prints the certificate for a safety training brief. It's for ATV riding. Same as the release form I have to sign. And we'll have to wash a load of his clothes. And he has to pack for his trip.

And the wife has a diagnostic test later today. That's going to cost a few hundred dollars. It's necessary though. And it's something I've been pushing her to get done for awhile now. She was originally trying through her doctor, but that was taking too long. So she's going with some other outfit.
It always sucks trying to get specialist stuff or certain types of tests done. Been that way for years now (about 15), and only gets worse it seems.

Watching a show on YouTube, and someone sent a Super Chat asking of three books Martin could put out (Winds of Winter, another Dunk and Egg, or Fire and Blood 2), which would you like to see.
That's a tough one. While I'd love to see Winds of Winter, I don't think he'll ever finish the whole series. So whether we're one or two books shy doesn't really matter. Dunk and Egg would be cool, as those are typically just easy-read novellas with really likable characters. I've never read Fire and Blood, so I have no opinion on that one.

I saw that Twisted Sister had to cancel all their upcoming shows because Dee Snider quit. He’s having health issues. I can sympathize.
Back when I lived Philly, I was taking some night classes for a Master’s Degree. This was over 20 years ago. Driving home from those classes, I’d listen to Snider’s radio program. He was really cool, and would put on a good show.

Had an awesome Book of the Face memory from 11 years ago of my baby girl walking for the first time. She went right from standing to walking, which took us by surprise.
Her brother had done the whole I'm going to use this furniture to hold myself up and walk around for a good while. Then he moved on to taking tentative steps before finally going full walker mode.

Oh joy! Apparently, we're getting "toxic masculinity" Skeletor in that new Masters of the Universe movie. Which pretty much guarantees I'll never bother to watch that film.
If I could go back in time, I'd find the person who came up with the godawful term and insult them until they cried. It probably wouldn't take much.
F#$@ing commie.

Anyway... not much planned beyond the usual Saturday. Big difference is I won't have the boy with me most of the day.
Although I am considering playing a bit of a joke on him for when he gets home later this evening. The garbage can is nearly full, and I'm thinking about leaving it that way and having him change it as soon as he walks in the door.

I got back from the grocery store before the wife had to leave to pick up the daughter from art class. So we both went, and then they came with me to the comic book store.
Which kind of sucked because I had to avoid buying some mildly expensive back issues. Instead, I made sure to have the guys put the issues in my box. The wife suspects, but I think I was able to convince her it was something else.

The wife called down asking me what the PIN was for the computer. I told her, and also mentioned it was taped to the side of the computer.
A few minutes later, I had to go up and type it in myself. Apparently, she failed to see the big piece of paper with “PIN” written across the top, taped right were I said it would be. If only she had turned her head slightly to the left….

I'm in the mood to watch another movie tonight. Maybe something from my collection. I've got a lot to choose from. Hell, maybe I could be a wild man and start rewatching some of the MCU, back from when it was actually good.
Though I'm still waiting on word from the scout troop when they might return tonight. So any movie watching might have to wait until the boy is back home. I had hoped they'd have posted something in Slack by now....

Henry Cavill is doing a Voltron movie?!? Could be good, but I'm cautiously pessimistic. As much as I enjoy his performances, the dude seems to have the worst agent offering him roles in shows/movies that either are horrible (see: Enola Holmes, Argyle), or start out good then get ruined by a-holes (see: The Witcher).

Today is Scout Sunday, and the troop is going to the 9 am mass. Some of them expect to see the boy and I there, but that's a no go. For one, I really don't feel like leaving that early (especially when I'm still working my way through my second cup of coffee). For two, the dear Lord and I currently have an....adversarial relationship. Meaning he treats me like dog crap, and I'm angry at him for it (and rightly so).

I did see an email last night from the dude leading the Philmont High Adventure trip this summer. He and his wife are doing a hike this afternoon, and were looking to see if any of the scouts wanted to join them. It's kind of last minute, but I'm going to push the boy into going. Might not even give him a choice.
Incidentally, the reason the dude's wife is going on the trip is because they couldn't convince me to do it. Not that I don't want to. I think it would be really enjoyable, and a nice adventure. It's just that, from a health perspective, I honestly don't think I'd be able to make through such a physically demanding trip.

Speaking of the boy.....
Since he has off of school next week (for yet another teacher vacation), the wife signed him up for a driving class. So we're starting that now. Although he's over a year away from actually getting his driver's license.
Damn! How the time flies. It seems like only yesterday, when the real FAWTLY was still around, that I was announcing the wife and I having a baby.
