Spent most of yesterday evening and this morning cleaning house. People will arrive in about an hour and a half to help celebrate baby girl's birthday. Not a lot of people, mind you. My brother, his wife, and kids. The wife's great uncle and aunt. That's about it.
My own mother would love to have come, but that drive is too much for her. Besides, she's got....other concerns at the moment.

On the other hand, the little party we had for baby girl yesterday was pretty cool. My brother and his family gave her a stroller/walker, which we put together right away, just to see how she'd do. Most everyone was thinking she'd faceplant pretty quickly.
We were wrong.
As can be seen by those on FB, she was rocking and rolling with that thing. She had a bit of trouble on the turns, but give her a straight run and she was off like a rocket.

Other note to self: When allowing the aforementioned baby girl to crawl around in the kitchen, make sure the step-stool is not directly underneath where the remnants of the also aforementioned chocolate cake are sitting on the counter top.
Then, don't take your eyes of the twice aforementioned baby girl.

I'm also thinking of stopping by Toys R Us and picking up something from the Thomas the Trian Wooden Railway collection. Something small, like a single engine, the boy doesn't have yet.
I'm only considering it, because he hasn't played with that stuff in awhile. Maybe, however, if I get him a little something as a stocking stuffer, I can reawaken his interest.
I'm also planning to spend more time with him, just maybe building train track set ups on his play table.

It's Saturday morning here in the Aberzombie household, the last weekend before Christmas. And there is much to be done. Gotta get the kids to Santa Claus for pictures, continue working on menus and such for Christmas Day, hit the grocery store, and I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting.
At the moment, I'm kid watching. The wife just left to bring her car in for brake pad replacement and oil change. About to get the boy a waffle for breakfast.

On a somewhat sadder note, today in New Orleans, my family there is having a funeral for my cousin's son. He was 30 years old, and died about a week ago. He was in a facility in Alabama, trying to get help when he passed.
It sucks, but in the end, he brought it on himself. And the people who should have been supporting him more often than not helped enable him as well.
I was 12 when he was born, and he was one of the first babies I can remember have experiences with: seeing his diaper changed, feeding him a bottle, etc. Over the years, I'd not really associated with the kid much. I had lived away from Louisiana, and typically only saw many in my family on special occasions. So I can only say that some small part of me will miss him.
R.I.P. cousin. Stupid kid.

My brother and I purchased tickets to a quote-along screening of A Christmas Story at the Alamo Drafthouse tomorrow night. And Karbach Brewing Company will be on hand with keg of their Yule Shoot Your Eye Out beer. If your purchase a pint, you can get a free Karbach pint glass (while supplies last).
Should be awesome!

I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
