There's a particular weapon from a particular game with horridly repetitive music that was basically an unassuming shortsword which, when swung, extended a black energy blade which gave it incredible reach, kind of like swinging around a whip. I'd like to recreate that feel with some thematic changes for the PF system so here it goes:
Shadowslayer
Base weapon, Shortsword
Effect: If the wielder has 13 or less Charisma, the weapon acts as a +1 Ominous Shortsword. If the wielder has 14 or higher Charisma, the weapon transforms into the Shadowslayer. Shadowslayer increases its enhancement bonus to +3 and can unleash an shadow whip from its blade which attacks with a reach of 10' and, like a whip, can attack targets within this reach as well. This shadow whip is made of semi-substantial shadow material and allows you to roll weapon damage once for physical slashing damage and again for force damage (a medium 1d6 Shortsword would deal 1d6 slashing + 1d6 force damage + static bonuses (static bonuses is entirely force damage)). You add Charisma to your damage roll instead of Strength. The first time in the round the target is hit, he receives a will save (DC 15+wielder's HD) to disregard the force damage until the beginning of your next turn. For every +4 Charisma the wielder has above 14, increase Shadowslayer's reach by 5' (max 20'). Shadowslayer retains the Ominous property and increases the will DC to avoid Shaken to 18. You threaten squares out to your natural reach plus 5' with the shadow whip and, if you have Weapon Focus (Whip), Weapon Training in a category that includes Whips, or similar abilities, they may apply to attacks with the lash (does not stack with similar effects that apply to shortswords).
Special: If the wielder has a Moderate or stronger good or evil aura, Shadowslayer will automatically channel that aura to turn its whip from a shadow-substance lash to either a semi-substantial positive energy or negative energy lash (appropriate to aura). Change force damage done by the lash to the energy type that matches your aura. Instead of Charisma, use the strength of your aura to determine reach increase, gaining +5' reach at Strong and again at Overwhelming aura. Change the Ominous property to either Holy or Unholy as appropriate. Living creatures suffer a -5 to the will save to disbelieve a negative energy lash while Undead suffer this against a positive energy lash.
What spells would be appropriate for making this? I'm thinking Shadow Weapon + Doom. Also, what kind of cost would be appropriate? General thoughts about the concept?
