Mass combat run on a smaller scale?

Homebrew and House Rules

So I had the idea of doing a game where the PCs are mid-level mercenaries that settle down and start a town to house the mercenary company they are building. I was planning to use the downtime system to manage this. I wanted them to actually raise a mercenary company and run the individual units from the mass combat system as squads instead of the Usual armies. Does anybody see a problem with just refluffing a, say, army of halfling scouts as a squad or should I redo statblocks for diminutive armies and use them instead?

I dont think there is much issue with refluffing the scale of things. After all history has a really wide definition of what an 'army' was. Some classical battles had hundreds of thousands of combatants, some midevil battles had only a few dozen a side, they were all 'armies'.

Have you looked at the Troop Subtype? It's meant for exactly that sort of thing, each troop represents about 20-30 creatures, and it "plays well" at PC scales because you don't have to turn the PC into an army.

I'll look into that Dexion, thanks.
