(Non-Settlement) Companies

I seem to recall that we're to have the ability to join up to three companies, but we're only residents of a single settlement. By now, I don't recall where the idea of 3 companies came from, whether it was a blog or thread.

I also recall settlement citizenship is handled like cleric worship, in the sense that you've got to be within one step on the alignment grid, and diagonals don't count. I don't know if that applies at a company level or if a company has other restrictions to membership.

Companies would seem to fill a similar role as that of 'guilds' in other games. Is there a minimum starting membership like there often is in those other games? Are there positions within a company which can be granted powers by the creator, such as members besides the creator being able to approve new members? If the creator of the company hadn't logged in for 60+ days, would the remaining members be able to select a new leader?

I think I've seen a few non-settlement companies forming to create trade networks, and one or two which plan to form druid circles if/when that class becomes available. If you've got a company planned which is not tied to citizenship, please post it here. If you have an idea of something you're looking for in such a group but haven't seen yet, post that too.

Thanks!

I seem to recall that a party, which is up to six people, could more formally become a company. So that'd imply any membership minimum couldn't be higher than six. There have also been discussions saying that companies would likely have a single leader with full control at first and then member levels and options for leadership changes developed later.

As to whether I'm in a 'non settlement company'... yes and no. Outsiders is intended to be a company, or collection of companies, which gather up groups of new players, give them access to the in-game benefits of being in a company without imposing any restrictions on how they want to play the game, and eventually build a settlement for a bunch of those players to settle down in. Once that settlement is viable, Outsiders would leave, begin gathering more new players, and repeat.

So, more of a 'settlement founding' company than a 'settlement company'. That said, we're currently backing Freevale in the land rush as a settlement with similar 'open play' values.

Confirming the 3 companies limit per character, but note that only one of those can be a chartered company. The other 2 memberships are intended for broader, non-geographic organizations, such as a merchant's guild, an association of OOG friends, a secret assasin brotherhood, etc.

Keovar, company leadership has not been detailed yet. I would not be surprised if it is similar to settlements at the outset.

Would need to petition a GM to replace a defunct leader.

As for companies being established to this effect, Mercantile is one such. Meant to connect traders with each other.
