Does anyone here have a formula for figuring out how to set rewards for fugitives or other bounty hunting jobs?
As it stands I'm thinking on adding side quest options for my party to go on bounty hunting missions, being able to hunt down and apprehend criminals for cash. Unfortunately I'm having trouble thinking of how to dole out cash for these that both keeps close to WBL but factors in collecting loot.
I'm thinking on having something linked to the weregild system of the region where those posting the bounty have a set amount for catching culprits but collects all the gear they are carrying as part of paying for the fine of their crimes. From the captures have access to the First Right and are able to claim various bits of their gear in lieu of payment equal to either the cost of the item or its selling price. Players can try to steal loot and not report it so as to skirt that rule but if caught will have to return the item and often pay a fine.
Now that's just one idea though, what do you guys have? Got anything better than that or that could be a bit more fluid? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I usually pick a figure depending on the settlement that issued the bounty. The base limit in settlement rules is a good place to start determining the maximum a settlement is willing to pay for a bounty. Extremely high profile criminals may be larger. This may seem a bit cheap, but even city governments don't have a lot of money to throw around. With bounties in my games, most of a party's profit comes from looting the equipment the criminal and his henchmen have. While a government might want stolen goods returned, they don't mind if the bounty hunters pocket a few weapons and trinkets the criminal possessed. The government can't be bothered to inventory every single thing.
