Hey all, i was making up the chronicles for a group that is close to being done with the adventure and noticed that one of the items (ring of protection +1) that they received from room B4 isn't on the list of items they can purchase.
I've heard that the Chronicle sheet has had some error, is there a revised copy or do I just write in the item and initial next to it? Or can they not actually acquire that item from this adventure?

From what I understand it not everything on that chronicle sheet is supposed to be there. During the running of the module what's supposed to be found depends on the encounters that are run and the items selected there by. Whatever does not appear on the chosen encounters should be crossed off the sheet.

Thread Necro! (sorry, but I have a question on this - and this thread seems the best place to get it answered....)
Ok - I've played this several times. And even run it almost Cold once or twice, but now I am getting around to really prepping it solid. (Doing up props and handouts and lots of fancy stuff...so that I'll have another Intro/Evergreen in my "run on a moments notice" folder)
And I have a question about the list of stuff on the Chronicle. Mainly about the treasure gained in room B4... Every time I have played it, nothing has been crossed out on the CR. It seems to be "common practice" to leave all the items on the CR... even if only two are given out (though in several cases, all the magic items were given out/recovered. The entire list.)
So - do I run it like written and line out most of the items on the CR? or run it like everyone else does and just leave them "available"? Do I be a "Hard-as" Judge, or a "Big Softy"...
Kind of troubled by this...

I think you should cross the items off.
My PFS area is pretty casual about a lot of things, or so it seems--but we do regularly follow the Confirmation's instructions and cross off the items that the party doesn't get. You would hardly be in the "pain in the backside" camp around here.
At least not because of that!

I cross them out, with the exception of the cloak of resistance. If they retrieve it, but give it back to Uori, I leave it on the sheet, as a way of teaching that you dont have to kill everything to gain the rewards.
(If they never retrieve it from the bottom of the pit, I do cross it off)
That's correct; you don't have to keep items to have them show up on the chronicle sheet, as long as you find them.
Step 7: Mark any special boons the players did or did not earn (U) and cross out any treasure items the party didn’t find in the scenario (V); additionally, if you’re running the lower subtier, always cross out all of the items listed for the higher subtier.
This used to be clearer in earlier versions of the Guide; it's okay to sunder the BBEG's stuff, you'll still get it on the sheet. (I suspect the rule was intended to avoid hard feelings between players when one of them feels the need to weaken the BBEG by sundering his uber-item that's killing everyone.)

Concerning the Cloak of Resistance...
The last line of section B3 clearly says: "If the PCs give the cloak of resistance +1 to Uori, cross it off the Chronicle sheet."
and Here the author says "The loss of the cloak was supposed to be countered by the addition of the partially charged wand Uori gives the PCs. I'm still bugging John to get that added." indicating that the Cloak should be lined out if the PCs give it to Uori.
So I actually wasn't wondering about that one. I was going to line it out if the players give it to the gillman... and maybe add on the partial charged wand...
still kind of wondering about the treasure gained in room B4... Every time I have played it, and everyone else who I have been able to look at their CR for this, has nothing crossed out on the CR (except sometimes the CoR). It seems to be "common practice" to leave all the items from room B4 on the CR... even if only two are given out (though in several cases, all the magic items were given out/recovered. The entire list.)
So - do you think I should run it as written and line out most of the items on the CR? or run it like everyone else does and just leave them "available"? Do I be a "Hard-as" Judge, or a "Big Softy"...

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Local metagames are weird, and you seem to have encountered one of the weird parts of your own local metagame.
I think the rest of us are all in agreement that if we were in your shoes, we'd cross out the items and be the "stickler for the rules". When I've done things like that, applying a rule that previously hadn't been followed, it usually goes over okay. People say "Oh, I didn't know about that." or "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was cheating!" and life is good. This isn't something that targets one person in particular so it shouldn't be a big deal. And most of the items on the chronicle open up at about the right time for someone with enough gold to purchase them.
What you choose to do with this information is, as always, up to you!

As a side note on treasure selection in B4: the Pearl of Power is just expensive enough for a L1 Scarab Sages faction journal, though not for L2. So not all treasure is randomly generated equal :P
Hah, no, some of that treasure is pretty useless. I usually pick two of the amulet of natural armor, ring of protection, and pearl of power. I might be a nice GM...
