Adventure path and their related bestiary ?

Product Discussion

I was looking to start up an adventure path with my gaming group but I wondered if each path referenced a specific beastiary or are all creature stats contained within the path booklet?
Thanks!

All of the stats for the monsters in a given Adventure Path will be either in the book itself, or in one of the hardcover Bestiaries. If it's in one of the Bestiaries, it'll tell you which one and which page to find it on.

Do the adventure patches usually cross multiple beastiary books? I'd like to know which one I need to purchase prior to picking up the path.

Often, yes. 1, 2, and 3 are the most common, but I expect that as new APs are written 4's material will be used more often. I've also seen a few monsters from the Tome of Horrors, but if they're used they usually give the full statblocks for them where they're mentioned, so you shouldn't have to pick it up.

You can get the full details on any monster from the SRD for free at any time. The only thing they are missing are the pictures if the monster.

Also, be aware that all the statblocks from bestiaries 1-3 can be found on Paizo's PRD for free, which would be an option if you don't wish to buy so many books before starting to play (not to mention it generally being a great resource!)

The pdfs are pretty cheap. When preparing for a session, I'll print off the pages needed from the "Lite" pdfs to have on hand. This way I can write directly on the monsters stats game effects and hit point loss.
