I like illusions, I like using them as a wizard. However, I think they're under powered. I was thinking the other day of a simple way to boost them and came up with the following (and maybe make this an archetype or something) - keep in mind this is very rough, and just wanted to bounce the idea out to the masses:
For illusion spells that have Saving throw Will Disbelieve AND have a Duration greater than Instantaneous, add the spell level(minimum 1) before the saving throw can be made.
Example:
Willy the Wizard is being chased three goblins. Willy casts a Silent Image in the hall of bars or portcullis to dissuade his pursuers. The Goblins wouldn't have a chance to "disbelieve" for one round after seeing the Silent Image appear in the hall.
Any thoughts...?

Interesting. This somehow harkens back to an ability that delays a saving throw with a successful bluff check (though I cannot recall the soucebook).
But ultimately, I find that playing theatrics is better than buffing mechanically. Remember that the three goblins only get a saving throw when they try to examine the portcullis (which goblins don't usually do). The real problem is that the illusionist must present a threat so psychologically intimidating that the subject may not want to examine it long enough (or interact with it) to get a saving throw. Instead of a Silent Image in the hall, perhaps Willy can simply throw a Ghost Sound spell to echo through the hall that sounds of a horde of dogs. Goblins (especially so few as three) will not risk turning the corner and fighting dogs.
Perhaps that will require two castings: One for the sound, and the other for a 'scout dog'.
But ultimately my suggestion is this: Look up a bluff check to delay discovery of an illusion, and be theatrical.
