Resetting your deck between scenarios

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm a bit unclear about the rules on decks and the number of cards and types of cards that you can start scenarios with and continue with throughout adventures.

Let's say for example I start a new character, using Harsk, and construct my deck using the example deck provided in the Rule Book. I go through the Brigadoom! scenario and complete it. However, along the road to victory, I successfully acquired a weapon and an item from the Location decks. Do I now have to banish those cards back to the box and get my deck down to the restricted quantities on Harsk's card (banish my new elite weapon so I go back down to 5 basic weapons, etc)? Or do those numbers serve as minimum requirements to start each scenario with? And if I have to banish down to those restrictions, can I swap out basic cards that were initially in there for my better loot I acquired in the scenario?

Thanks in advance! Any help is much appreciated!

The numbers are card types as long as you end up with the right number of cards of that type you are ok. So you start a senario with five weapons and you end up after the senario with five weapons. In theory they could be five entirly different weapons or they could all be the same or a mixture of both.

Your deck must contain exactly the number of cards listed on the back of the Character Card, choosen freely from the Cards you finished the last scenario with.

So you can use the aquired cards but have to give up cards you owned before.

After completing a scenario, (whether you win or lose, as long as your character didn't die) you have to remove cards until you're back down to the numbers your character tells you to have. Which cards you keep is up to you, as long as you have the right number of the given type.

So: The number of cards is tied to your character (and later on the card feats you choose). In between scenarios you aren't allowed to have any fewer or more. Keep those that you think are best for your character.

The +1 undead bane crossbow is sure going to be better than your old longbow.

All right, everyone has answered my question perfectly. So thank you. Just to clarify, if you finish a scenario and upon completing it, each player gets a skill point to spend, can you spend it on increasing your deck size and then immediately utilize your increase right away? Or do you discard down to your deck size and then get the point? The latter doesn't make much sense, but I'm just clarifying.

First, you earn the reward, as that happens at the end of the scenario. Then, after the scenario, you rebuild the decks.

To be clear about this, there are three types of feat:

- Skill feat
- Power feat
- Card feat

Each one has to be spent in the appropriate section of your character card. A skill feat will give you +1 on one of strength, dexterity, etc. Only a card feat can increase your deck size, and the first card feat you get is at the end of Burnt Offerings (AP1).

But yes, as Firedale2002 said, when you earn a card feat you apply it first and then rebuild your deck using the new, increased limit.

Also to clarify a common misconception: when you rebuild your deck after a scenario, you can only go fishing in the box for cards if there is nothing in your entire group's unwanted cards to fill in a slot. So if you, for example, choose weapon as your first card feat and someone picked up a crummy shortsword during the scenario you have to take it until you find something better.

I play Kyra with my girlfriend playing Seoni and there have been times I had to take an arcane spell when choosing a card feat because of this.
