Blessing cards for added damage

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hi guys quick question, while playing a "Blessing of the Gods" card using the "Discard this card to add 1 die to a check" and if I was using Merisiel, would I then be adding one d12 die to a combat check? Since I would be rolling her dexterity originally in my combat check. For example, her Dexterity is d12+2 with a light crossbow adds 1d8 plus the blessing card for an additional d12. Giving me a combat check of 2d12+2, and 1d8?
Thanks in advance

Yeah. Things that "add a die" always add the base die.

Yep. When you use a blessing you add your base die for whatever skill you're using. So, for Merisiel in combat using a crossbow, that would be dex, thus a d12.

Now, if you were just fighting with her Strength, no weapon, and used a blessing, you would get an extra d8, since her strength is d8.

One more thing though, Merisiel doesn't have ranged skill, so you wouldn't get the +2 bonus (unless that is where you've invested your skill points). I think of all the starter characters, only Harsk gets a bonus to ranged skill.

Ah yes, I always tend to overlook that the +2 does not count with the crossbow.

Thanks

Hold on. If you used skill feats to give Merisiel a bonus to Dexterity, she will get that bonus when using a crossbow*. What motrax means is that if it had been Harsk who put his 2 skill feats in Dexterity, he would get +2 for his feats and +3 for his Ranged skill when using a crossbow. If Merisiel uses a crossbow, she would only get +2 for her Dexterity feats.

* Unless she decides to use her Ranged skill which is a plain d4, because Ranged is not listed on her character card
