About "the haunting of harrowstone" / maybe spoiler

Carrion Crown

Hi,there.
I'm Japanese gamemaster who play this game.
Thank you for answering for my previous question.
I decided to play game using this book with 5 players.

Today, I have 4(plus 1) questions about this book.

1) About Spirit Planchette (see 20)

I totally can't understand what this board means.
Should I surmise that this is just a "Ouija board"?

I think that the letters which are written in this board look like alphabet like characters. If playing this game in Japanese, is it OK to replace these characters to Higarana / Katakanas?

2) About trust point (see 58)

I think that, if trust point is 0 or less, this scenario automatically ends, I think. Is this true? If trust point is 0 or less, what action should characters do???

3) About angry Mob (see 58)

I couldn't find these stat. Should character say he/she want to fight with them, what data should I use?

4) About Free Healing (see 59)

I couldn't find Vauran Grimburrow's stat in this book. Can he/she use

a) Bull's strength
b) Divine Power
c) Heal ?

5(plus question)

a) My friend who lives in America says that this book is very suitable for beginner because this scenario is simple and understandable. If there are some plus advices in playing this book, please give me them.

Also, If there are some points which are important in this book, please teach me them. (example, confirm xxx's rule before starting this game, etc.)

b) I understood that this book's enemy is very strong considering starting this scenario with 2lv 5 players (without paladin !!!).

I can't understand whether I should pass some useful items before starting this game, or not. Is it appropriate? If yes, what should I gave them?

Hi - Always great to see players from Asia and I am impressed with you running this in your 2nd language.

Always use Spoiler tags for stuff like this. [ spoiler] [ /spoiler] but take out the spaces...

Spoiler:

Lets see what I can answer.

1) About Spirit Planchette (see 20)

I totally can't understand what this board means.
Should I surmise that this is just a "Ouija board"?

==Yes. It plays more or less like a Ouija board but the Planchett is the pointer thing ON the board. You can use the planchett on any ouija board.

I think that the letters which are written in this board look like alphabet like characters. If playing this game in Japanese, is it OK to replace these characters to Higarana / Katakanas?

== Sure - If I had a player base that wasnt good with English I would do the same but the game doesn't NEED you to actually pull out a ouija board, just describe the senance to the players

2) About trust point (see 58)

I think that, if trust point is 0 or less, this scenario automatically ends, I think. Is this true? If trust point is 0 or less, what action should characters do???

== No. Game doesn't end but the town goes to crap and they'll drive out the players, won't do business with them etc. You can play on without the town and once the prison is settled by Vesorianna, the town will return to normal.

3) About angry Mob (see 58)

I couldn't find these stat. Should character say he/she want to fight with them, what data should I use?

== If you are talking about the guys at the funeral they just use the NPC commoner statblock. If you are talking about fighting the town as an angry mob if Trust gets to 0? You can try using 20 or so commoners as a single group or using a swarm template with each square representing 2 commoners.

4) About Free Healing (see 59)

I couldn't find Vauran Grimburrow's stat in this book. Can he/she use

a) Bull's strength
b) Divine Power
c) Heal ?

== Father Grimburrow is level 7, he has a rough outline in the NPC section. Any spells castable by level 7 is fine or of course he can channel energy as well -4d6

5(plus question)

a) My friend who lives in America says that this book is very suitable for beginner because this scenario is simple and understandable. If there are some plus advices in playing this book, please give me them.

== There is a forum board JYS1) About Spirit Planchette (see 20)

5(plus question)

a) My friend who lives in America says that this book is very suitable for beginner because this scenario is simple and understandable. If there are some plus advices in playing this book, please give me them.

==There is a forum on these boards JUST for Adventure Paths and specifically Carrion Crown.

Also, If there are some points which are important in this book, please teach me them. (example, confirm xxx's rule before starting this game, etc.)

== Lots of advice on the Carrion Crown Forums

b) I understood that this book's enemy is very strong considering starting this scenario with 2lv 5 players (without paladin !!!).

== You should be ok. A paladin is a very effective class but an Oracle of Life or a Cleric who can channel energy to hurt undead is even more useful.

Spoiler:
1.) Yes, it is essentially just a Ouija board (but one that actually works). It shouldn't change much if you use katakana with it (I presume to make it easier on yourself and/or your players to use?). More specifically, it's the arrow thing you use ON the Ouija Board.

2.) No, the game does NOT end if you hit 0 trust points or less. I would suggest houseruling the trust points so they aren't so EASY to drop to 0, actually, because as written it's almost impossible for them not to. When you hit 0 the Angry Mob forms. There's a section after the adventure, in the description of Ravengro (and all its locations and rumors, so you rally need to read this part) that explains what happens at each level of trust.

0 is Hated, and the Angry Mob forms.

3.) There are no given stats for the mob. It's essentially meant as a plot device, to get the PCs moving quickly toward the conclusion of the adventure if they take too long. It is a mob made up of Commoners, however, so the stats from the angry peasants at the start of the AP (at the funeral) will work if you multiply the numbers by a bit.

4.) The only thing you really know about Grimburrow is that he's level 7, and a Cleric of Pharasma (so is limited to her Domains). He can cast any spell a level 7 Cleric may cast, plus a few extra Domain spells depending on what you pick for him.

5a.) This was the first AP I ran. I did find it pretty easy to run, but I'll stress the importance of building atmosphere. While the scenario itself is simple, it's almost boring without the proper atmosphere. You want your PCs to be slightly unsettled and creeped out the whole way through, like they're watching a horror movie.

5b.) Once the PCs get to Harrowstone, the difficulty ramps up quick. The Haunts can be devastating to level 2-3 characters, and the 5 main ghosts they need to destroy are nothing to be trifled with. Of special note is that the Splatterman is essentially a level 8 Wizard, though limited by his loss of spellbook. He has Maximized and Empowered Magic Missiles which can very quickly decimate the PCs. The Lopper and Father Charlatan can also easily kill a PC if they're not careful.
