Poking my nose in here...
There's no need for a local coordinator. As long as everyone has a PFS ID number and a legal character, it's an official PFS game.
You'll need a GM of course plus 3-7 players. (If there's 3 players, the GM plays a pregen PC.)
You can play at home, in a store, in a public meeting room, in a park, on a train... anywhere in fact. Playing at a local store and advertising it in-store or online is one way to find players.
Hope that's helpful!

I play/GM in Greenville, SC. I realize that's 2+ hours away, but I thought I'd mention our PFS event at Boardwalk Game Day on Sat. April 26. We will be playing the module Crypt of the Everflame, divided into two sessions, 12-4pm and 5-9pm. It is for levels 1-2--it awards 3 XP, so a PC who completes it will gain a whole level.
The Game Day is at Phoenix Greenville's Inn (weird name I know). Admission (goes to the store, not us) is $5.
The event should be posted to the PFS Event Calendar soon as well.
Happy Gaming!
