Dragon's Demand - GM Questions (heavy spoilers!)

A couple of questions, some germane to my situation, some for GMs running the Chronicle 2 section in PFS mode.

1) I have a player who has been there for every session, in home game mode, but the session where the PCs dealt with the kobold lair (chronicle 1).

Do I still give him all 4 chronicles, for completing the game in home game/campaign mode, or do I only give him chronicles 2 & 3?

2) In the game covered by chronicle 2, there is an auction. For the way the auction is written in the module, the PCs would be getting a 50% price match, up to 7,500 gp.

2a) Do the PFS mode players also get this bonus from the town?

2b) In the area of the module they go through first, there is a scroll of Permanency, which they can either keep or turn in to the town.

I presume, since the spell permanancy is illegal in PFS, that they only get to look at it in passing, but the scroll is also offered as one of the items in the auction, in an item that would actually be a desirable item for a spellcaster with some scrolls of their own.

Is the item just auctioned off empty?

3) If the PFS PCs get the bonus, do they get to keep the items won in the auction? Or do they have to pay the normal price, afterwards, to keep them. And, if they do have to buy them afterwards, do they get any monies spent during the auction back?

Spoiler:
With a really good set of rolls, they could get a spellbooks with up to 5th level spells for only 4,000 gp. Especially since the spellbooks also contain a spell that is specific to the module, and not listed as legal for PFS.

The 6 spellbooks contain: All cantrips, 25 1st level spells, 22 2nd level spells, 17 3rd level spells, 13 4th level spells, and 11 5th level spells.

Just from scribing costs alone, ignoring cantrips, this set of books is worth: 250 + 880 + 1,530 + 2,080 + 2,750 = 7,490 gp

And, other than a couple of specific spells, they are "GM determines".

How would this be handled if this section is run in PFS mode?

Silver Crusade

1) No, he only gets 2 & 3.

2) PFS characters only keep what is on the chronicle sheets and only receive the boon on the chronicle sheet. They can not 'buy' PFS items in the auction that carry over to PFS. (The entire auction process is represented by the 'Day at the Auction' boon)

2a) See above

2b) PFS characters can't keep this scroll or it's effects. Only items on the chronicle sheets. Home game characters can use this for as long as they play at home, but the character in PFS that the chronicle is applied to can not.

3) PFS PCs can not keep any items unless they are purchased via high fame or on a chronicle sheet.

Spoiler Section : Since PCs can copy spells known (that are legal in PFS) this is actually a great item, I don't know how to treat this.

I'm not sure about #1. In a home game you have a lot more leeway. If the GM feels that the player completed enough of the module then what's the problem?

I agree with Soluzar, the player completed the fast majority of the module, and since it was played in "campaign" mode completed encounters not covered by PFS. I say they earned all 4 chronicles.

Is the spoiler section covered by "PFS Mode?" If not, then the answer is easy. If it can be encountered in the PFS Sanctioned portion of the module, then it should be fair game, just like [REDACTED] in regular scenarios.

Edit: Unless you're playing in campaign mode. Then I'd say the only things you have access to are what appears on the chronicle sheet. I say this because your PFS character isn't actually playing the adventure, similar to when you apply pregen credit to another character.

2) PFS characters get to keep items they buy during other modules, like, say, a scroll of Cure Light Wounds, if they don't use it during the module. They are spending their PFS PC's money. Is there some rule I am unaware of that means that playing any part of Dragon's Demand in PFS mode is not treated as a PFS game?

The boon is an extra for having played that part of the module, and having successfully bought an item in t5he auction. Do they get to keep the item they bought? If no, do they get the gold they spent for it back? If they don't get the gold back, then they should get the item they spent the gold for, yes?

Purchasing an item is vastly different than finding an item, like the mithral tube when found in one part would not be keepable. But if it is purchased during the auction, wouldn't it count as a purchased item, since there would be a gold piece expense to buy it? At that point, after all, it is no longer loot.

As part of a home game, the auction is fine. But as part of a PFS game, played with PFS characters of the appropriate level, it offers a few potential issues.

If they purchase the scrolls lot, and write them into a spellbook, what then?

Oops:
Forgot, they don't even have to buy the spoellbooks or scrolls to access them, since part of the bribe to get teh PCs to go after the dragon, or to go to the nexct, included section of the module, is access to all the items from the auction anyhow.
