Paizo Kingsmaker Dice by Qworkshop-Terrible ink

Licensed Products General Discussion

I bought a set of these dice recently, they arrived today in the mail, and I was surprisingly disappointed with the inking quality of these dice.

Now I know Paizo doesn't make these die directly, however when they produce something with the Pathfinder name on it, you'd hope they would carry the level of quality of anything Paizo produces.

The quality of the dice themselves are fine, but the inking is terrible. The inside walls of the numbers have chunks of un painted black, which looks particularly gawdy considering the die are green with silver inking. The fact that portions of the numbers are black also makes the die difficult to read at any type of angle, so unless I stand up and roll while looking directly down at the die they are too much of a pain to read, and thus I would just be better off rolling another set.

The rough part is that I wanted to get away from Chessex die, different colours sure, but really just the same dice over and over. The q workshop dice were a bit more ornate, more unique. Which is what I was looking for.

I really expected better on both accounts. Paizo's major competitor, WOTC, has a reputation for shoddy attention to detial, and poor painting on their minis. And Qworkshop's main competitor is Chessex, the easy to turn to, consistent die maker most people turn to, but I wanted something more ornate and unique, which is why I opted for the Kingsmaker dice set.

I know Paizo's big thing is game content, but you'd hope they would demand the best for anything carrying the PF name.

I'm going to try to get a refund/exchange from the site I got the die, maybe try the beige forest die, and if the workmanship is the same, looking like factory seconds, I'll just go back to Chessex sadly.

Liberty's Edge

You most likely got a bad set. I am a pretty big dice snob and I have three different sets of Q-Worksop dice (set meaning at least 40 or so matching Q-Workshop dice, either all the same color etc) and every last one is fantastic, top rate quality.

I have the RotRL and Second Darkness Q-Workshop dice sets and they are really great.

My husband has the Kingmaker dice, and they look fine so they're not all like that.

Sounds like you just got a bad set. Besides Kingmaker, we have the Curse of the Crimson Throne and Second Darkness sets and have no complaints.
