Infamy of other Pirates

Skull & Shackles

So I'm about ready to run this AP for my group and they are already very interested in building up Infamy points by retelling abridged versions of the tales in roleplaying sessions along with the required skill checks.

But I was wondering while they are in taverns telling their tales, what about the other pirates tales?

What are the infamy scores for other free captains and Council members?

I want the PCS to know the reputation of someone like Tessa Fairwind a few sessions before they meet her. To give the PCs a sense of moving up in the world because they caught someone with her level of infamys interest.

I know the tales can be handled by making some diplomacy checks in taverns, using info from her background ala the gossip section for Mr. Plugg.

But otherwise how does one figure this out, because I can't seem to find it in the AP.

Did any other GM run into this situation? How did you work with it?

Thank you

There's no infamy score that I know of, or at the very least our GM has not stated they have any. I would go with a gut feeling, more than anything. For instance, The Hurricane King has probably around an infamy score of about 60. Plugg's likely only got one of about 5, being a first mate rather than a captain, though this of course can change. The Pirate Council will hold the highest infamy scores. Freecaptains will usually have wildly variable scores, while the small fry who aren't freecaptains are probably going to have an infamy of 10 or less.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So after reading Infamy cannot be more than 4x average PC level, ie level is 5 then no more than 20 infamy score.

So I think using the Captains level as the average and sticking to the rule it should give a rough infamy score/range

ie Tessa as a 13 lvl NPC would have a max score of 52. So that puts her in the Loathsome (40+ infamy) range. She would just be shy of Vile (55+ infamy) and considering many see her as the next Hurricane King/Queen, the score would make sense

Master of Gales = 60

Bonefist = 72

Does that seem reasonable to use for infamy scores?

Yeesh, Bonefist is THAT strong? We're in for some rough rides when we face him, if we do.

He's actually one of the easier AP bosses :)

Yeah sorry for any spoilers, but PCs are near on par level wise once they meet Bonefist.

And like I said that would be the max infamy score they could have. And after you reach the 55+ level there really is no other reward for being that high.
