I know Paizo does not want to accept PayPal for ongoing things like subscriptions. However, I seem to recall a while back a large number of folks asking why Paizo couldn't at least accept PayPal for single purchases. I think someone (I'm thinking Vic?) even commenting that it was not a bad idea and that it would be looked into.
Assuming I'm remembering this correctly, is this close to happening yet? I do have to admit, I freakin' love ya Paizo, but not accepting PayPal even for single purchases is really a pain! For instance, I would like to pay for PaizoCon tickets (admission and banquet) with PayPal but I can't (can I?)
Thanks!

I second that. The credit card-only policy made me stay away from the Paizo Webshop for more than half a year and I would buy many more products if Paypal was available.
Simple reason: We germans HATE credit cards and avoid them like the plague. ;-)
You don't need a *credit* card, a *payment* card will suffice in most cases. I live in the, considerably less developed, Poland and my run of the mill card I got from my bank so I can access my account for payments and ATMs works with Paizo store without a hitch. As long as your card has a CVV number (three digits at the backside of the card) and your bank allows to use the card for foreign electronic transactions you should be golden.

Thanks for the help Gorbacz. :-) I already tried that months ago but it doesn't work. The reason is the missing CVV number on my giro/payment card. Nevertheless Paizo hooked me with its great products and my brother lets me use his credit card for purchases. But it is really inconvenient in comparison and prevents shopping sprees.
And to be honest: The logic behind this policy eludes my understanding. I can use Paypal or regular online banking for literally EVERYTHING regarding purchases in Europe and Asia and it works perfectly fine. I would probably spent three or four times as much money per month as I do right now if alternative payment methods would be available for the Paizo shop. Actually we have a small but growing webshop and Paypal purchases make up 90% of our income from it.

When this has come up in the past, it has been stated that PayPal's authorization requirements are incompatible with Paizo's needs.

If I recall correctly, the main issue is that PayPal has very strict requirements on how soon items have to ship after payment is made. Paizo can't always comply with that due to the fact that they have pre-orders, subscriptions and items that they distribute for other companies which may not be in stock 100% of the time.
From memory, what I believe was discussed in the past was the idea of maybe using PayPal to purchase store vouchers, which could then be used to buy whatever you wanted from the store. I seem to remember Vic saying something when it was last brought up about it being a possibility, but that they hadn't looked into it properly yet.

I do sort of remember something about that. Allowing PayPal as a payment method but only for Paizo.com gift certificates. That actually seems like a pretty nice compromise - anyone know if it's close to happening?

Re-examining the PayPal API is something we do once a year or so. If I had to guess the next opportunity we'll have to look at it will be later this spring when we're doing some other related tasks. But I wouldn't count on it—supporting PayPal involves business and technical issues, and both kinds have gotten in the way in the past.
