I discovered the Neverwinter about a month ago. Since it is free-to-play, I gave it a go. I really like it overall. I can see how it used Star Trek and other MMOs as inspiration for this engine. I like that you only have a limited number of powers active at a time. The controls took some getting used to, but I find it intuitive. The targeting reticle is a fresh change from tab targeting, though it does make targeting at range a little tricky. I got a character maxed out to level 60 without spending a dime.
I am not a huge fan of the crafting system. While it is easy to use and easy to get materials, I find I “out-level” the gear I can make. I.e. by the time I can make level 15 gear, I am close to level 30. The end-game stuff is a touch confusing at first, but I am not a big end-game player. I am just not into repetitive grinding and long instances. I wish we had more control over our companions. It would be nice to send the tank companion into combat before I start attacking so I don’t get aggro. I think the Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO did all of these things better.
Overall, IMO for a F2P game, it is really good. For an MMO game, it is average to above average.
Does anyone else play?

Well Neverwinter and Star Trek online are both Perfect World MMOs so they have complete access to each other's code and development teams. It only makes sense they would end up similar.
That said I found it unimaginative and boring for an MMO. No specialness to keep anyone coming back. I doubt it will last long. I suspect it would be the first MMO on the chopping block if Perfect World decides to cut back.

Played with my ex, reached level 60, got into some endgame...got bored. It's...forgettable to way the least.
Yeah, 'forgettable' pretty much sums up my experience with it. I vaguely recall enjoying myself while playing it but it didn't leave any lasting impression at all, whether positive or negative.
I do remember that I liked how they integrated the player-generated content into the gaming world, making it feel like a seamless part of the game (a stark contrast to, say, the Architect Entertainment system in City of Heroes.)

I played Neverwinter a ways back, and the only thing I thought had any real promise was the Foundry. There were a lot of neat, user-generated dungeons and quests and such but that alone wasn't enough to hold my interest for too long.
Is it still in Beta with just one version of each class and a limited number of races available?

I played for a while. I thought it looked okay and that my class was fun to play and worked well(Control Wizard), but unfortunately it had signs of freemium(bleh! And too many currencies), and the community I ran into didn't communicate that much. In particular the mute PUGs I ran with really made the experience Meh. The forge looked like it had some awesome potential and I had plenty of fun with that, but otherwise nothing really amazing. Better than a lot of ones I've played, worse than some others. I'd bring a few friends along if you were going to play it.
Hunter Ranger went online today btw, if I remember correctly. Didn't know they had a paladin planned, I'd rather see a barbarian myself. 4E Faerun has a lot of stuff in it to draw from too, was cool to see stuff I recognized.

The thing i hate most about MMOs is when some douche comes up, and without a single word trys to invite you into a party.
Nope.
Then he follows me around re-inviting me untill i tell him to f##k off and mute/hide him.
Then he keeps following me around and "helping" me kill mobs.
I hate those people with a passion.

I have no problem with being invited to a party once when it is obvious that we are grinding the same monsters - myself I usually send a tell/whisper asking to confirm if they actually are grinding them before inviting.
People who just try to invite me to a fellowship/guild/clan are what irritates me. Especially that I only join fellowships/guilds/clans composed of people which I already know.

Haha! I had a few of those playing neverwinter. I'm just like "Watchu' want!" and he's like "Oh! I was going to go do this 3 hour dungeon." And I'm like "Dude. Say hi first. -_-'" Those guys are in most MMO with group quest though as far as I know. Its usually the random guilds invites that kill me(literally ingame sometimes...).
Oh! Another thing. As I leveled in Neverwinter I saw less and less people up until the endgame gigs. Hopefully that's better than it was when I played before.
