Hi, I just purchased the game and played for the second time yesterday. We encountered the spyglass item and disagreed on the interpretation of "put them back in any order". I figured both cards would go back on top of the location deck and you get to choose which one goes on top. My buddy figured we could decide to put one them anywhere within the location deck. I've looked through posts both on this forum and on BGG and couldn't find this clarification. Thanks in advance!

The only reasonable way to interpret "put them back" is that they go back where they came from, which is the top of the deck. Of course, their order may be reversed from the way they came off the deck, which is the second benefit of this card (other than knowing the two cards, that is). The designers tend to be clear that they expect the logical interpretation to a card. If they had wanted them to go anywhere, they'd have said it, something like "return the cards to the same location deck at any place in the deck."

Also, Spyglass uses the word "examine."
Sometimes a card allows you to examine one or more cards—that means looking at the specified card then putting it back where it came from.
The "put them back in any order" thing adds a twist to that, but doesn't override the "where it [or, in this case, they] came from" bit.
