Trying to come up with a name for a character and some part of my brain is thinking of a type of Buddhist that vows not to achieve nirvana until everyone else does too. Anyone know the term for this?

In the Mahayana tradition that's referred to as the shepherd-like bodhisattva path.

I haven't encountered one in my study or practice, but most of the teachers I read are opposed to using Sanskrit or Pali for simple teaching when English (or whatever) has perfectly usable words for a given concept outside of certain terms (arhat, buddha, etc). They're languages used for scholarly study, not communicating the way.

I believe avipala is the Sanskrit word for shepherd.
