Cassomir - Issues

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Im fleshing out Taldor for our current campaign. Cassomir is listed as the 2nd largest settlement after Oppara. The map given in "Echoes of Glory" for Oppara is pretty impressive, displaying a city of several thousand citizens and worthy of its capital distinction.

The map of Cassomir however, in the City Folio, looks like a town of a few hundred. A very limited number of structures doesnt give the impression one would expect for the bustling port city and construction yard it is listed as. (Not to mention the scale on the map seems to indicate most of those structures are 100 or more feet in length - apartment complexex?)

Im designing Ridonport at the moment and even a modest approach at making a port city dwarfs its "big brother" Cassomir.

Am I missing something? Is there a stat block for Cassomir out there somewhere, Ridonport too for that matter?

Perhaps Cassomir is a vertical city - if each building is two-four stories tall, it can account for many more citizens.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

According the wiki, Cassomir only has 1/3 of the population of Oppara, and a large portion of its inhabitants are halflings (so can handle more people on the smaller area).

The big buildings are certainly workshops and warehouses : Cassomir is the main shippyard of Taldor and is a major trade port of the Inner Sea.

Thanks for the reply but all of the buildings cant be warehouses. I know its just being picky but when you look at the map, you dont see a city, you see a town. Although there isnt a scale on the Oppar map, if you compare the two Cassomir is about a 6th the size of Oppara, not a third. By description then Ridonport is even smaller.

That would be fine I suppose but given Taldor's history and admittedly declining power one would think there would be other city-cized settlements and not just small towns after the capitol.

I think there is a disconnect between what Cassomir is supposed to be and the map in the folio. Its described in the Wiki as a MAJOR trade city and the home of the Imperial ship yards. It doesnt look the part.

Liberty's Edge

I understand what you are saying, rgrove0172, and I agree with you. A city like Magnimar has less than half the population of Cassomir but has a far more realistic layout in terms of the number and size of the buildings, as does Korvosa.

Yes, glancing through the folios most of the other cities look the part. I suppose one could just assume each building on the Cassomir map is a cluster of houses or what not. Im thinking I may just redraw the map,it will bug me everytime I pull it out while playing.
