Talk me down!

Gamer Life General Discussion

As there is a real potential that I am about to be furloughed

I am itching to run an “Interest Check” recruitment thread to see if there is enough interest to launch a “Retro” D&D game using a modified version of the “Blue Book” edition of the rules (adding just enough “Pathfinder-esque” elements to satisfy my own quirky-ness).

So talk me down,

because anyone can clearly see that the games I am running now are losing player interest because of my slow posting rate, and the only thing that is making me want to start this up is the knowledge that the recruitment threads can be so much fun

Yup, this is the tragedy of pbp games. Recruitment and chargen is great fun, but the agonizing speed of play invariably kills my interest within two weeks of actually starting.

Sometimes I feel like there should be a Word Game specifically designed for PbP making. People make characters, submit them, maybe the GM even runs the game for a week or so, then ROCKS FALL EVERYBODY DIES.

Would You Like To Play Again? :)

Have you tried using a virtual tabletop, like Roll20?

I think a virtual tabletop game would be very close to a conventional tabletop game, and would not solve the problem of the high level of excitement that is manifest in the recruitment tread followed by the slow painful death of the game thread.

So? If you regularly meet on skype, using Roll20 or maptools, it would seem to me the vital signs of a thread would be of little consequence.
