Question about rewards impacting character deck limits?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

My wife and I just got this today and played the first suggested scenario and we immediately love the game.

However we are perplexed and can not find an answer to this question:

Upon defeating the first scenario the reward was: pick a random item from the box.

Does this reward item increase the amount of item cards listed on the character sheet? For example my wife played Lem and his item limit is 2 but next to it are empty check boxes for 3 and 4. We assume this means that the item reward means he now has an item limit of 3 not 2.

Is this correct?

Also after we completed the game do we keep the cards we won during the scenario that are in our hand? If so how does that impact the limits on the character card sheet?

Appreciate any help!

You may keep anything you gain. However, you must reset your deck to be that listed on your card. Basically, you improve your deck by replacing lesser items with new ones you gained.

Any cards that do not make it into another player's deck may be taken by any other player in that scenario. You simply may not go over your deck limits.

Later, after one of the adventures, you gain a card feat, which will allow you to get an extra card type of your choice (based on your character) in your deck.

Just to ask then: what do the extra check boxes mean for the card list for those characters who have what their favored item listed on the card? If you get a card feat that lets you get an extra type but it has to be the one they prefer then why have the check boxes for the other items?

The favored card ensures that your opening hand starts off with a specific type of card. For example with Kyra (the cleric) if you draw a hand of 5 cards and have no blessings, you then set those 5 cards off to the side and draw another 5 continuing until you have at least 1 blessing (her favored card) in your hand.

The "Card Feats" allow you to increase your deck size by a weapon, or armor, or spell etc (dependent on the character) and are not impacted by your character's favored card.

Those check boxes are "level-up" option that you gain at various points, after completing certain adventures or scenarios. There are 3 types of "level-ups".

Skill feats, Power feats, and Card feats.

You use the check boxes to mark off when you have selected a particular feat that has been gained.
