Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hello fellow gamers.
Went to my local store today and grabbed a copy of the base set and the character deck and called up the gang to play. First off it took a bit longer to get playing as I found out my rule book was missing some pages and had to download the rule book. But we managed to look it over and we where good to go. We had a total of 6 players so we first choose our characters and for ease and to learn the mechanics we stuck with the pre-built recommendations and did the first scenario "Brigandoom!" we selected the 8 locations for the 6 player game and created the location decks and then made the 30 card blessing deck. First turn we flip over the blessing card and had a encounter with a monster managed to defeat it and the the second player goes and turns over a fate card, now where done to 28 available. How can we close all the locations in time so we can kill the villain? to me it seems that the games difficulty is increased with the number of players added as locations increase but not the blessing deck. Am I right on assuming this or did I miss something?

Many of that cards can be played to give an extra explore location, allies and blessings. Also with 6 characters you can block more locations once the villain is discovered. It requires a different strategy which could be double team some characters and focus them on closing locations. Use a character who can evade and explore to locate the villains location, then ignore it whilst closing the rest and moving the most suitable character to that location. With six characters you should always have one with a high value in each skill, with less you may need to burn time to meet certain challenges.

I believe it is balanced by player count.

Essentially, with that many players you should be using blessings and allies for extra explorations much more than you might have to with 2 or 3 players. With that in mind, remember that no matter how many players you have (unless you're playing in a solo game) there are still more cards to explore than there are cards in the Blessings deck, so in almost any game you play you'll need to use extra explorations.

Also remember that

1) you can close locations before you go through all the cards (e.g. by passing the 'when closing' check after defeating a henchman, automatically when you defeat a villain and sometimes through other game effects).

and

2) you don't have to permanently close all the locations before you finally defeat the villain - you just need to have someone at each location so they can temporarily close it and stop the Villain from running.

P.S. you are under REAL time pressure with six characters and need to use blessings and card powers to explore again quite often. You have 30 turns to get through, potentially, 80+ cards so plan accordingly!

The trade-off regarding amount of heroes is, either you have specialists for every situation, and more help available to you but have to go through the adventure fairly quickly (each hero has up to 5 turns), or you lack diversity, might not be able to succeed at a single wisdom check all game, but you have a lpt more time (up to 30 turns).

The key to winning scenarios seems to be to split up to start off. Look at the location details - specifically the number monsters and the Closing conditions. We place the character that can best deal with each location. When the Villain is found we are able to Temporarily Close most of the locations so when then have a good idea where the Villain now is, usually one of three locations. Tactics will now change depending on how many cards are left in the blessing deck.
